REMAKES you want to be made ..

Westworld is a classic SF film that has dated badly, and could stand a touchup with modern gear. Apparently there is a remake in play, but no one attached yet. Josh Brolin could play his dads part. Yul Brynner would be hard to replace though, actually Chow Yun Fat would be great.

Good flick, but definitely dated. This could be pretty cool. There are also built in sequels with the other possible "worlds" that they showed brief glimpses of in the film.

How about:

THEY LIVE [Directed by John Carpenter]

Either a remake or a sequel. They would have to keep the line by Roddy Piper -- "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

Actually, a lot of great and cheezy lines from this film. link

Alright, I might be about to piss off a good amount of you movie buffs and purists with this one, but since this thread is assuming good direction and etc,... here goes...
A Clockwork Orange. That's right. It was an amazing movie for me, but seeing some of the new film styles and actors up and coming, I bet someone could give it a great new life.

Here's one a little more obscure that I just loved... An american remake would simply give it more exposure, as it's fairly recent, but already well made. Still, let's see the remake of Run Lola, Run but keep Franka Potente as the lead actress.

never been a fan of remakes, unless they are remakes of foreign films, such as City of Angels and wings of desire. then you have the Super hero moves, which I dont really consider remakes, just added franchises. I guess to me a remake means you're looking to the original, for example if I wanted to make a Moby Dick movie I wouldn't consider it another remake as I'd be looking to the book not the past films.

but if I could pray for one sequelae it would be "fahrenheit 911: Moore gets the crap beat out of him" or just remake it with a new director and actually tell a few truths.

In all reality I do wonder how some remakes would be handled like Bang the drum slowly

Godfather, BronxTale, oh and any Frank Capra film. how would you remake a film thats already as amazing as it possibly can be? Mr Smith goes to Washington, who would you cast?

oh and if they remake THEY LIVE.... my god....

I will be more than p*ssed, I'll kill a mofo.

PLEASE DONT RUIN ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF OUR TIME

no sarcasm here... for real... they should leave THEY LIVE the heck aone

A much better and more faithful adaption of V for Vendetta is crying out to be made.

I disagree. V was a very good movie.

As for remakes, it all goes basically to comic book/Video games movies, for me:

Spawn

Punisher- Am I the only one to see the potential here? This character could be the ultimate contemporary Maximus (from Gladiator)

X-Men- Those characters deserve way better. Imagine a Dark Knight approach with the X-Men, or a more "Marvels" approach...

Final Fantasy

Imagine a real Final Fantasy film- something on the scope of a Narnia or LOTR. Personaly, I would love to see something based on IV, VI and of course VII.

Agreed, the movie was nowhere near as good as the animated series.

Punisher- Am I the only one to see the potential here? This character could be the ultimate contemporary Maximus (from Gladiator)
Compared to the Dolph Lundgram version, anything is gold.

X-Men- Those characters deserve way better. Imagine a Dark Knight approach with the X-Men, or a more "Marvels" approach...
They did do a Dark Knight style, and it sucked... well, maybe suck is too harsh. They should do it more faithful like Spidey and Iron Man. Those two worked well, because they were done by people who at least read the comics.

I kind of keep thinking Quantum Leap is ripe for a re-make. Of course, we have Dr. Who, but it has its own mythology around it. Seems like you could do a lot by Battle-Star-izing Quantum Leap.

I could never buy into Quantum Leap. Time Travel is one thing, but jumping into another person? That sounds to improbable even for SciFi.

Hmmm The Thing

I'm afraid a remake would not be a good idea; it's an effin masterpiece.

But

I would welcome a sequel. Already have the idea in mind, if even the same old same

A rescue team is sent in to locate survivors of Outpost 31. There are none.

They take the bodies back and transport aboard a ship headed back for the States (NYC or Boston). Predictably, the Thing does its 'thing' on board and at sea as the ship gets closer and closer to its destination.

Of course I'd end it with the ambiguous 'Will America be safe?'

HELL NO!

PArt 3 will be total Thingage spreading across the States.

Sounds great. :)
