I want to option a script for...

Look I don't always agree with David... actually I have no clue who he is other than he posts here...

But you seem to think because you know big names you can throw out that makes you better...

Just because I don't live in New York... or LA (really Orange County) anymore... does not mean myself or anyone else has talent or no talent...

I can't explain it but for some reason from your first posting... I knew this was how this was going to end up...

And truthfully $200k or $300k... is nothing if your in such good graces with such big time people...

Myself... I'm just a small fish in a big pond....

You can imdb.com... my name is Gary McClurg... and really who cares if I have missing credits there as a producer... I have credits there as a producer... nothing major... just small stuff... that gets picked up shown on Showtime... HBO and other cable networks...

But just because some people live in small markets doesn't make them small and I'm not talking about credits... I'm talking about life...

And I find myself having to take this advice more than once in life... like a famous quote... "Can't we all just get along."

Wow. This whole forum is in a serious decline. I only read through the entire thread, just to see if things would change from where it started. This used to be a good place to get great information, but something in the last 6 months or so happened and you guys have all gone mad. Or maybe I've just matured past the whole "my camera's bigger than yours" debates.

You guys get angry at Guru for coming to a general filmmaking board to look for scripts?! Are you people KIDDING?! Maybe he didn't hold himself in the most professional manner, but how in hell does anyone expect to network by being so utterly closed-minded? He came to the "Screenplay/Writing" sub-forum which was all asked for by the members on the board.

There definitely seems to be a reason that people on this board spend so much time writing/reading posts and not actually doing something. This guy gave you guys a chance and all you gave in return was paranoia and accusations. Unbelievable. I know what it's like to put work into something and have it stolen. Without risk, there's no reward. Just something I think all of you have forgotten or never learned in the first place.

I think it's a sheer lack of professionalism that causes a decline in post responses.

Honestly, I would never shoot a feature for less than 1 million dollars. I know people too. I don't have to name names. I don't have an IMDB - though I should. Independent films defaulting on their contracts have left me with lack of credit. But really - IMDB is a joke. There are so many people lacking credits. So many people having credits they don't deserve.

Throw names - thats fine. Names really don't matter. One can't say there is an independent system anymore. The systems of making film are totally different. When you say studio - are you talking like Paramount and it's subsidiaries? Focus? Columbia? Sony Pictures?

Those are the studios. It's akin to the studio era. Just having a company name does not equate to a professional studio. Yeah - I have a company that ends in Studios - that doesn't put me up there with the big dogs. I've been considering optioning a few scripts. I have received queries that were ridiculous in how much they expected for the screenplay. I've received terrible films. I've received some good ones. Ultimately I passed all the options. Nothing struck my fancy. So I passed.

And I live in central New York. Not a film hub. Yeah - it makes things a little harder, but you don't need to live in a market to get work. I work just fine. Especially if you are a writer.

If you are indeed a screening writing guru, then you should understand how easy it is for one to sit at home an write a screenplay, query it, enter fests, get some accreditation for their work, and sell stuff. You don't have to be in a major market to do that.

Honestly - you are not helping yourself at all. At first I read it and thought - guy doesn't know what he's doing, isn't a serious buyer - move on. Now you read, arrogant ass.

Whatever. Whatever you think is a better marketing strategy. After-all, you talked to spike lee.

Despite the previous post (which at times makes me wonder if he has even read this thread) I wanted to thank everyone who submitted screenplays. My company will not be reaching any decisions untill at least the end of the week and the earliest I might have any info for you guys is Monday of next week.

If anyone is interested in sending any screenplay to my company please send a query letter to my email address. Please PM me if you do not have it yet. Please do not send any query letters to my account on here. Thank you.

I'm not sure where you are getting this stuff from.

As far as I can tell, I was the first poster to portray anything even remotely close to anger, but that was in response to a perceived attitude problem, for which Guru apologized. His request wasn't anything absurd. I was just pointing out why I didn't think he was getting the response he wanted.

Most of the angry responses seem to have been prompted by Alveraz' posts.

Frankly, some of you guys started attacking people for being paranoid of having their scripts stolen before anybody even brought that topic up. The early posters were just asking for more information. They certainly were not accusing Guru of trying to steal their scripts.

I apologize to everyone if my original posts had anything to do with starting this ridiculous argument. People just wanted more information, and I defended them for doing so.

I hope that Guru finds the script he is looking for, and that some lucky screenwriter has his or her first script produced. I hope that everybody shares that sentiment.

Can't wait to see who you pick Guru

Just to be clear... the decision isn't just mine. Also, there are other screenplays up for consideration besides the users who submitted here. In addition to all that if the actress dosen't like any of the ones we like the deal could still fall through. Bottom line is nothing is even close to being set.

I have to agree with Chapel. If I know the budget is low, I'm not going to write in heavy explosions, car chases, or purple people eaters with 22 limbs. :)

I wanted to let everyone know that my meeting today went very well but I am sorry to say that at this point we are going a different way and we will not be using any of the submitted screenplays. I appreciate the effort put in on everyones part. I will not be contacting you individually but you can feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Thanks again.
