Cinemek's g35 adapter shipping june 20th!

oh,
i've actualy seen this one a time ago and commented on the stunning filmic quality.

Question. How much light lost and how far can you stop down before grain?

The adapter looses about 1.5 stops of light. That light loss is necessary to properly scatter the light across the screen and achieve a sharp contrasty bokeh. As for stopping down, you are good into the 5.6 range. We give you 7 days to try the adapter out. If it does not make you happy send it back. No questions asked.

a return policy. that's almost sounds like a legitimate business practice. for once someone is finally stepping into direction. next is at least a yrs warranty.

The more I think about it a static adapter is very appealing as long as the downfalls are corrected. The GG has fine enough grain that there isn't a pattern? So it is sealed so not debris can get on the GG....can the seal be cleaned id debris when dust gets on that? I've been looking for a better solution for my HVX200 for some time now... I like spinners, but they are just too bulky. And vibrating adapters all come with their issues...

What camera was used on the short film, and has there been any resolution test to compare it to the sg and letus which are two of the sharpest adapters i've used.

Last but not least, what is the price? If all these things are reasonable I may be ordering today.

Dingles,
Take a look at our HD footage. https://staff.washington.edu/gdmj100/hd_footage/ Judge for yourself on grain. As for being sealed. http://www.virb.com/cinemek/videos/39477 All of our units are assembled in a desiccated class 1000 clean room. The adapter comes with a 1 year warrantee against any manufacturing issues. We will take care of you.

Reem,
I have not run any test against the SG or Letus. There are so many versions of each of these adapters so running around testing would be not worth it as there will always be the person who wants us to test the G35 against brand X. I would suggest looking at all of the footage and decide for yourself. There is much more than just resolution at play here. Bokeh, Contrast rendering, and ease of use are huge factors in deciding a purchase. What I can say for sure is that the back focus is so very critical in these units. even if they are sharp when the leave the manufacture, shipping mishandling, weather change can affect a moving element. There are no moving parts in our adapter. The screen is locked in place and the relationship between your 35mm lens and focusing screen will not change. I do plan on shooting a res chart as soon as we get our new lenses in. Old glass is miserable. you can check out the store at http://shop.cinemek.com All the pricing variables are there, Ballpark is $1400 with mounts and all. Thanks!

We used a Canon A1 and some really old Nikon glass.

I'm using the a1 myself and find that to be the most universal cams for all the adapters in terms of edge sharpness.

Also if I ordered, what would be the turnaround time?

Personally I see lots of advantages with the G35 over current adapters.

The fact that it mounts to the camera and protects the focus ring is a big plus for me! No more gaff tape. The static aspect obviously makes it an interesting product. No moving parts. No noise. No power needed. The only downside seems to be the lack of a flip... but I do get why Jonathan and the people at Cinemek omitted that aspect. I'm excited to see more demo footage!

WOW, I didn't know that. so the GG doesn't even move and you'll see no grain right? that is amazing.
I wounder how the GG is designed!!

by the way Jhonathan, what is the difference of the Canon A1 mount, DVX mount and the 72mm thread mount? will I be able to use the 72mm mount on both the A1 and DVX?
because the DVX & A1 both are 72mm thread lens too...

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not wowed by the footage. I've seen some amazing clips from the SGpro, Letus, and Brevis units. Perhaps it's due to the older lenses?

Just being honest here, perhaps I'm just spoiled by Disjecta and Kholi's clips...

With the HPX170 on the horizon, upsidedown may not be so bad. And pick up raylight for the ingest and youre good. NEB70HD for external viewing (since it has flip function).

My concern is sharpness. I hope to see more footage that shows how sharp the images can get. The footage I've seen so far really showcases DoF but alot of hand-held focus-finding going on so I cant really tell.

Anyways, good to see the G35 finally make it out.

Right now we have a 2-3 week lead time if you order today. Thanks!

I have to agree on the footage. I want something more. Keep in mind it was filmed with the Canon A1. Give me some HVX footage! I think it would showcase it a little better.

The thing is... you can't exactly use your Letus Ultimate in Antarctica on a shoot? You could use the G35! That's where no moving parts always comes in handy.

People like Kholi have truly mastered the art of using the 35mm adapter. I think Philip Bloom is one of the best as well for his very artistic style of use. I'm willing to give Cinemek a chance. We just have to wait and see what people can do with it. Heck, I'd love to film some demo footage with my Zeiss primes and my HVX for them!

Just to be totally transparently clear here, We are not claiming that there is no grain at any F-stop. When you start stopping down past 5.6 a faint structure can appear in certain situations. Watch the demo clips, judge for yourself, If you have issues with it after 7 days send it back and we will return your money minus shipping and handling costs.

because the DVX & A1 both are 72mm thread lens too...

Good question. We will be adding more product shots to the site soon to hopefully make that clear. So, the 72mm thread mount clamps on to the back of the adapter allowing for you to screw it onto any threaded camera with step Down/Up rings.
The disadvantage of the 72mm thread mount is that there is no flange to cover the focus ring, you no longer have the bayonet style quick mounting, and the achromat cannot be positioned precisely where it's best for that given camera. I hope that helps answer your question.

Just ordered the Cinemek G35 for myself today....

I will keep everyone posted on my purchase experience.
From an earlier post from Jon it looks like I will be waiting a few weeks for the adapter to ship.

I own an HVX200a and have 3 Nikon F2.8 Zoom Lenses
17-35, 28-70, and 80-200
