Be careful what you wish for.... HDTV

Hazers, Full Black Frost and a little Vaseline will cure what ails you. Course, you won't be able to see anything, but that nothing will look better in HD than it ever did in SD.

With the exception of things like sports and nature shows, I'm not a fan of HD. If I want things to look like I'm looking out my window, I have some weird neighbors that I can watch.:)

Isn´t that funny?
Now that we can see all the details, we have to blur them in post, till it looks like blown up SD.

Is there a different technic in 35mm productions? I mean it´s way more resolution than HD, so for filmguys this should be no problem at all.

At least I never saw the netting of a mustache on a theater screen.

Well, video is a lot sharper. I'm sure it has something to with DOF. But I could be wrong?

their make up guys are top notch, and they put lots of diffusion over the lens... also, by the time a film reaches the theatre its like 5 - 8 generations away from the master negative.... alot is lost.

i read an article in ACS magazine, in the average theatre, youre really only getting about 720p worth of res.

case in point, I watched Dark knight in a average theatre in NYC. The image was great, but a tad soft, same with No Country For old Men. It looked amazing... no complaints. theni watched No Country on BluRay on my dads 60" 1080p screen it looked literally better than the theatre....

Also, i was fortuante enough to watch a Final cut version of BLADERuNNER in 4k, digitally projected in the Zeigfeld theatre last year... HOLY CRAP. That was scanned form the origional negative, CCed then projected essentially. alot more of the origional image intergrity was retained, and it looked EFFING spectacular. It was so sharp it was scary. RED camera has vgiven people a taste of minimally "proccesed" work flow. Much of the 4K image will remain intact when being projected on a 4k screen.... but wait till they start scanning film at 4k and projecting it...... It looks amazing. the organic charachteristics of film, the shoulder, the toe, the dynamic range, all will be better represented in a pure digital projection, and you wont have ot worry as much about generational loss of image integrity from the traditional film work flow...

Assuming 4K projectors make their way in to theatres....

The 35mm print gives the pleasing look because each image is essentially different in it's rendition. The crystals are slightly different from frame to frame. So the image is different from frame to frame. When this is projected back - you get a pleasing look that digital cameras can't emulate.
