External LCD monitor with component input

Apefos Adapter

I wrote an email to four LCD manufactures about a LCD with component input and I got an answer from IVAN from LILLIPUT:

my email:

Hello,

I would like to know if you have plans of build a lcd monitor 800 x 480 pixels with component input. If you search the video and videomakers comunities you will see there is a big market looking for a lcd with component input. the video comunities are dvinfo.net/conf dvxuser.com and hv20.com The lcds with component input in the market today is very expensive so if you make one with low price it will sell lots of units. you can see a test with a comparison in component and composite inputs showing the component input is very better for video work here:

thanks

The LILLIPUT answer:

Dear Sir,

At present, we use RCA inputs (2 video and 1 audio) on LCD monitors, and S-video is optional, but do not use component input.

To build a new monitor with component input, it requires long time and large cost for design and production which based on batch orders generally.

If it is possible, i would like to know what is your main marketing product, and are you wholesaler or retailer? looking forward to your detailed information, and hope we can discuss further on the monitor.

You can input component video via VGA port but there aren't many small widescreens out there with vga input.
I had a component to VGA solution for a exposition I designed, it worked well but those were projectors instead of LCD screens. Also HDMI to DVI works on modern screens if you didn't know that.

My new email to Ivan from Lilliput

My new email to Ivan from Lilliput

Hello Ivan,

Great to see your fast answer. I am a 35mm adapter manufacturer. My website is www.apefos.com The 35mm adapter is used to allow the use of 35mm photo objectives in camcorders to get the film look in the image. When a 35mm adapter is in use the focus gets so critical than a external monitor is needed. The most inexpensive external LCD in the market today is the Lilliput 800 x 480 resolution but it does not have the component input. There are three comunities in the internet with lots of videomakers needing a low price LCD with component input. The videomakers in these comunities are buying Lilliput from ebay.com I invite you to enter in this websites comunities and search the word lilliput and you will find lots of potential clients for it. If you can build it and sell in ebay lots of videomakers will buy it. The comunities are

www.hv20.com
www.dvinfo.net/conf
www.dvxuser.com

Thank you...

I saw some people trying to do a component to vga with the mayflash adapter but it does not work with the lilliput and the HV20...

Dear Adriano,

Thanks for your information and feedback.

I do not know are all VCR with component outputs? But, since some people buy our products to cooperate with their device, i think RCA inputs is meet their requirements, do you think so?

Here is a suggestion for you, people in those communities buy LCD monitor from eBay with retail price, why not put their demand together, and order with wholesale price?

Looking forward to your comments.

Hello Ivan,

All the HDV (high definition) camcorders have the component output. Using the component output the image gets more resolution in the LCD monitor. The composite video (the yelow plug) do not have enough resolution to do a precise focus with the camcorder. Due to this the videomakers are needing a monitor with real component input. I think each user buy his monitor due to different address to delivery and do not have a person or company to menage the money for buying for all the people, so each user buy one unit in ebay. You can see a comparison in the resolution using the composite and component in this link:

Thanks

Dear Adriano,

Yes, i had visited the web, and know the diffence between component inputs and comparison inputs.

But we do not have LCD monitor with component inputs now, but RCA or S-video only. It is regretful.

Looking forward to your comments.

800x480 is so 2007 ;)

-but seriously: lot's of work being done with XVGA panels at the moment. Several, very affordable, solutions will be introduced in the next couple of months - and they all have component inputs.

Heloo Ivan

What about a HDMI input or a DVI input instead of component? keeping the 800 x 480 resolution and the 7 inch size. take a look at this:

thanks

Dear Adriano,

Thanks for your email.

At present, we do not have HDMI and DVI input for 7" LCD screen, too.

If change RCA to DVI, we should redesign PCB and mold, it requires order quantity is not less than 500 pcs.

Looking forward to your comments.

450? There is no way! Where does it say the price. Seems too good to be true. What are we losing at such a low price?

There were some prototypes that Small HD sold for $450 - the new LCD coming out will be just a tad more but I can assure you quality is there. No HD-SDI though. Everything else input wise. Very well built. And it's not the plastic housing you get with a mahattanlcd.com monitor.

what exactly is the benefit to having HD SDI rather than component or hdmi? When all one needs is high quality image to do proper focusing with 35mm adapters, isn't that enough?

HD SDI is preferred as a means to capture, in many cases using pass-through via LCD monitor. Not all the time, but on many of the shoots I've been on, if they're tethering and recording to a raid, then they're outputting HD SDI to LCD and then from LCD to raid.

In many of the cases, HDMI is much preferred and component output works just great for output to an LCD for critical focus. The Small HD panels have both and at resolutions higher than most of the entry level pro LCDs. If you can do without bluegun, red peaking or flip functions, these LCD absolute BLOW away anything in comparison for the price point.
