Is there going to be Gen-loss?

We've been having a lot of A/V sync issues outputting to HD-CAM lately. The audio just constantly seems to be 2 frames off (while the video is bang on). Sometimes we break sync in FCP and it works, but other times that doesn't even seem to do it. But we never seem to have this problem going out to our AJ-1400. So I was just curious what people thought about gen-loss if we went out to the 1400 in house (we own the 1400) and had the post facility dub that over to HD-CAM for us (for delivery to broadcaster).

Also, has anyone tried the v6 for Kona 3 yet? We have it installed, but we can't really afford a HD-CAM rental just for tests right now. One of the listed "improvements" or such on the press release was A/V sync being addressed. But I'm curious if anyone has had a similar problem and then seen it fixed as a result of v6 release.

We're going off an Dual quad Intel, FCP 6.0.4, and 10.5.x (whatever the latest is).

Cheers.

OUtputting to the 1400 then dubbing to the HDCAM will be the same quality as if you output from FCP to the HCDAM deck. Even better if you run it thru a Snell & Wilcox or Terranex if you need to be upconverting to 1080 from 720. SO you are fine doing that. Outputting to HDCAM, wehn upconverting...is tricky. I always have a post house do it and they have a trick to tell if they are right soon after output starts...and they know how to fix it. And they are keeping that secret. SMART guys.

I haven't tried v6 yet...I don't work with RED so I don't have a need yet. I am fine and working, so I don't mess with that unless I need the new features.

Cool, thanks Shane. That's what I was figuring, but I just wanted to make sure. That could also make the post-super happy as I think it'll cost less to have the post house do the dub rather than us having to pay for the day (or sometimes two) rental on the HDCam deck.

We're not doing any upconverting during the output. We digitize everything to 1080i for our online and so send everything already in 1080i out to tape (whether it be HDCAM or DVCPROHD).

I'm with you on upgrading normally, but since we've been having all these sync issues and the press release said it addresses A/V sync issues, we felt we needed to. But we upgraded after the last round of outputs, so we're kind of stuck in limbo right now (wait, rent the HDCAM again and try outputting w/ v6, or just output to the 1400 from here on out and have the post house go to HDCAM). But thanks again for the reply.

Cheers.
