haha must have been a cool festival.^^ Didn´t know people build houses out of Chinese lanterns.

edit: Oh, where´d you get that cars from? And that girl... :D

Haha, I wasn't even going to take the picture of the girl..but then I remembered I should always have at least one girl in a set of photos for you Phillip. Importfest is where I took the car photos. I didn't realize I posted so many though, wow.

EDIT: OH, the car photos for the most part were taken with the 50mm I bought! I finally ended up picking one up guys - razor sharp lens.

Yeah, girls are always nice to see. :) I like the red RX-7, cool photo as well.

Btw: Those terrible lightened areas at car expositions are a bad testing areal for the 50 mm. Go out and take take pictures of ... you know what I mean. :D

edit: I realize the canon-thread is quite busy at the moment. very cool.

Frisco, you play with some nice toys...how do you feel about the leaf digital back v.s. the mark II...to me the low noise of the Canon sensor almost makes up for the difference in resolution to the Aptus.

Canon thread is blowin up amazing photos Kegan with the festival and car show! And Frisco that shot couldnt be better of the navy seals. They are in the dark just like they are supposed to be silently and stealth like! Nic work!!!

Well..... This being a Canon thread I'll start out by saying.... The Canon is a very good camera, I have the 1dsMklll also. I have few things to figure out about the Mklll before it replaces my Mkll. You can do many things with these cameras..... But there is not one camera that is best for everything.

I'm gonna show my age here.... Back in film days I had many formats and film stocks to choose from depending on the job. 35mm, 2 1/4 Square Hasselblad, 6cmx8cm Fuji 680, 4x5, 5x7, 8x10

Now we have two sizes..... DSLR and Medium format. Yah, I know about scan backs and stitching solutions..... Not for me....

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about noise, pixels and other digital phenomenons. I care more about the imagery. A bad picture is going to look bad with any camera.... I know.... I've made my share of crappy pictures!

I work in Advertising.... The main difference is I need to control the situation and make a picture rather than take a picture. For that reason I have a 4000sf Studio a 3Ton Grip Truck and 40 2400ws strobe packs.

Noticable noise tends to happen more with higher ISO's and under exposure. When you control it with the proper light level there is no noise issue.
That said.... I enjoy some noise with my pocket cameras... Reminds me of the old Tri-X days!

OK.... In a situation where there is an overlap..... The Canon or the Leaf could do the job....... I'd go with the Leaf everytime!

Why:

- Leaf is way more film like in smoothness ie. Leaf handles contrast better and has a wider latitude. Canon highlights will blow out sooner.

- The Leaf images are much bolder... This has to do with the bigger sensor size. Never confuse "Angle of view" with "Field of view" The backgrounds on med format look better because they are closer.

- Leaf images need far less sharpening.

This is not a Canon bash at all.... I love them! But don't get fooled into thinking a 22 megapix dslr is the same as a 22 megapix med format. There is a reason one costs $8000 and the other $30,000. Not worth it for most I'll agree, But well worth it for some!

Yah know.... I didn't even answer your question.... Sorry.... Noise has rarely been an issue for me in either format.... Yes... I know what noise is and I know how to get it. I once I had a noise issue on a time exposure with the Leaf, real botchy blacks. Just sent it out to a retoucher and he fixed it up.

Thank you. I almost gave up on the idea on digital backs after a disaster with my weddings pics on a 75s but you bring up some very good points. Dynamic range/latitude is definitely amazing on medium format digital.

I just want to try to understand one concept. Are you saying that a medium format lens that will give you the same field of view and depth of field as a different lens on a 35mm camera (ex. 135mm f.3.5 v.s. 85mm f2.0 - I know this probably doesn't match up but just the idea) Are you saying that the medium format lens will give you a bigger presence or feel because there is less distortion from a longer focal length (is this what you meant by the background is closer? If you can, please try to explain where you were going with this idea.
