REMAKES you want to be made ..

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
All this news about remakes and the cringe effect it seems to have on most people, how about listing films you want to see remade:

I'll start

Zulu

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058777/

Two Lieutenants, Chard of Engineers and Bromhead find that their 140 man contingent in Natal has been isolated by the destruction of the main British Army column and that 4,000 Zulu warriors will descend on them in hours. Each has a different military background in tactics and they are immediatly in conflict on how to prepare for the attack. Nearly a third of the men are in the infirmary, as the welsh company tries to somehow survive with no help in sight. Based on a true story.

=

With todays techniques and sophistication of shooting action sequences, this could kick major ass.

I would like to see "The Thing" get remade. but by a notable director. One of the scott's would do it justice.

That is about the only movie I would be cool with.

Hmmm The Thing

I'm afraid a remake would not be a good idea; it's an effin masterpiece.

But

I would welcome a sequel. Already have the idea in mind, if even the same old same

A rescue team is sent in to locate survivors of Outpost 31. There are none.

They take the bodies back and transport aboard a ship headed back for the States (NYC or Boston). Predictably, the Thing does its 'thing' on board and at sea as the ship gets closer and closer to its destination.

Of course I'd end it with the ambiguous 'Will America be safe?'

HELL NO!

PArt 3 will be total Thingage spreading across the States.

Damn man, We have the exact same Idea. I was thinking frieght ship all the way. I can't believe that a re-make is not on the radar for this. They could go up there and find Kurt Russel and Keith frozen.
I just would not like a lot of CGI do it like Stan Winston did it.

"Thingage"...Effing brilliant

In all honesty, I can't think of anything I would really want to see remade. Most of the stuff they have done, totally undermined the character of the original. Or at the very least, was a pale rip off. Maybe a new Doc Savage could work?

OMG CGI would ruin it. Some studio exec would be all over that.

That is where many of The Mist's effects failed; the CG creatures.

I remember seeing a fan based Thing done in stop motion with G.I. Joes. It was ok, but really didn't hit home.

Another good thread topic might be, "remakes that would make you cry"

Such as:

Alien (2009) Starring: Paris Hilton

Braveheart (2009) Starring: Luke Perry

Ok I'll shut up and leave the thread alone now.

I think I'd kill myself if these actually got made.

JR Hudson -- your Thing sequel concepts are great. No need to do a remake if they can do a sequel. The Thing is one of those type of films like Aliens, Terminator, or Predator that can actually work without the main human star. Don't get me wrong, the cast of J Carpenter's film was great, but it could work with a completely new cast.

As for a remake, I hate to be the party pooper.

From the Wikipedia page on The Thing

In September of 2006, it was announced in Fangoria magazine that Strike Entertainment, the production company behind Slither and the Dawn of the Dead remake, is looking for a writer or writers to write a theatrical prequel to The Thing.

According to Variety, Strike Entertainment and Universal Pictures are preparing to remake The Thing. Ronald D. Moore is set to write the script with Marc Abraham and Eric Newman producing. David Foster, producer of the original film, will be executive producer of the remake. In a 2007 interview with Ronald D. Moore, Moore states that he is working on a script, but no date has been set for production.

Well, Ronald D. Moore of the new Battlestar Galactica series writing the script means that it has the chance to be good or even great. Then again, it doesn't sound like much has been happening with it since 2007 so maybe it's a dead project.

I watched the remake of House of Wax with Paris, and looked forward to seeing her in it... just to watch her get killed. Does that make me a bad person?

Can they remake Indiana Jones 4, with a coherent script, different DP and no CGI monkeys?

The Professionals

It would be cool but I know it would be ruined completely.

Another one, "Once Upon a Tine in the West." If they remade that one, I would probably suicide myself. Those two movies I hold dear,as some of the ones already proposed by you guys.

I don't think they should touch any Sergio Leone films for remakes. There's just no need. Besides, aren't Westerns pretty much dead?

A few oldies that I think might make worthy or interesting remakes:

Logans Run
The Island is very similar, but I think that they could still do Logan's Run.

Zardoz
Great film. Pretty weird. Hardly anyone's seen it so I say expose it to a larger audience. Isn't that what doing a remake is partly about? Taking something that didn't work for audiences back in the day and reworking it for the present day viewership.

Planet of the Apes
I just didn't like the Tim Burton / Mark Wahlberg 2001 remake. Nothing against those two guys at all, but this ape-fest didn't work. It needs to go back to the style and feel of the 1968 original. Get rid of the twist ending crap. Show the statue of liberty early on. Get that stuff out of the way and then give us an intelligent and wild action adventure. If anyone's seen King Kong (2005), the scenes with the Skull Island tribe going crazy and attacking the expedition. That's the kind of feel I'm thinking of -- primal.

The Running Man
I've never read it, but apparently the Richard Bachman (really Stephen King) novel is very different from the over-the-top but fun Schwarzenegger film.

From The Wikipedia Plot Description (spoiler alert):
Note that the plot of the book is quite different from the film adaptation; in the movie, Richards does not end up dying nor is the game area itself actually "open." The movie's game is set up into four distinct regions; the objective is to progress through each area of the competition, instead of surviving anywhere in the world for 30 days. Furthermore, the enemies in the adaptation are known as Stalkers, as opposed to the original novel's Hunters.

I think they should be doing this instead of the Robocop remake. (Schwarzenegger -- how did a guy with such a long name become such a big star?)

Westworld is a classic SF film that has dated badly, and could stand a touchup with modern gear. Apparently there is a remake in play, but no one attached yet. Josh Brolin could play his dads part. Yul Brynner would be hard to replace though, actually Chow Yun Fat would be great.
