The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

I wonder which one is gonna be the cheaper place to go with. BB will probably be my choice because I'll get the points for the big purchase.

Any news on Nikon PR today? Gonna be funny if a larger one drops with better video out the gate!!

Longest Thread in History, and Sunday is just the Start.
My Circuity City better have it in stock like their website says.

This D90 needs a new forum all to itself with test footage, easy workflow,
editing programs, codec, and ofcouse Pimp my D90 baby.

i have a D40 that came with an 18mm-55mm and a 55mm-200mm with VR. they're... okay. the bokeh produced is oval rather than circular. my nikon primes have ruined me.

For the unbelievers:
Honestly, why is it so hard to believe that the d90 has a manual mode?

Why the strawman argument? Why not just let this be? Why accuse people who disagree with you of something that's simply not true. Nobody's saying that it doesn't HAVE a manual mode. Jeezus, give me a break.

Haven't multiple people with multiple reference stated that the exposure is lockable? Have I been imagining it? Is it possible that the people shooting all of these videos use auto-exposure and that none of them have experience in cinematography or video?

Saved for absolute ridiculousness factor. You really think the people shooting the ads for Nkon don't know how to use the camera? Really? That's your best rationalization of why there are exposure jumps throughout their ad? Seriously?

Give it a rest. Nobody's debating whether or not there's a manual mode on the camera or a button that's for 'exposure lock'.

Pressing this button locks the current exposure and focus, they remain locked for as long as you hold the button even if you press or release the shutter release button. The exact function of this button can be set via CSM f4.

I was reading thru the dpreview for the camera and in the auto lock spec the above info was given. It doesn't say anything about working for the DMovie but what I am curious is what the heck does "set via CSM f4" mean? May this be what the Nikon rep was talking about? I could not find what it was anywhere.

chirp*chirp*chirp*....anyway...I guess all the west coast guys went to bed...just hanging out in here by myself...so I decided to uprez our Penguin to 1080p for you guys. I would've put it on vimeo, but it's bailed one me twice so far. So here it is. D/l away. And I can't really say I see a difference because my monitor is only 20inches and I don't have big screens like you guys, but for what I've seen without squishing it, looks good.

From Morgan-multimedia.com:

M-JPEG : Motion JPEG or Moving JPEG
Most PC analog video capture and editing systems, capture video to AVI files using Motion JPEG video compression.
In Motion JPEG, each video frame is compressed separately using the JPEG still image compression standard.
No frame differencing or motion estimation is used to compress the images. This makes frame accurate editing without any loss of image quality during the editing possible.
M-JPEG is also used for recording sequences of pictures on digital cameras, webcams, videoconference and surveillances systems.

Just like I said before and somebody came along and corrected me with his own version, incorrect as this shows. This is from a place with real knowledge on the matter.

Wow, when do you guys sleep or go to work? I'm currently unemployed and I still can't keep up with these posts! Really caught the excitement of the week (waiting for this thing to come out). Can't remember the last time I felt the same anticipation -- perhaps it was a few decades ago on Christmas eve. We already know there are a few compromises with this first one, but I think we're more intrigued by what it represents and what may follow (perhaps even before the year is out). Really looking forward to reading what you guys say about this camera next week; surely the forum needs a new section to accommodate this sort of stuff (called something like “DSLR video”).

I say "serious" film as in tell a story. That would be really fun. and with that said...

Does that sound good? Who's in? Should I expand the number of entries allowed?

:) LOL !!

I too was going to charge Mr Richards with a Strawman !

And it wouldn't be the first in this thread: "Why is it that when a small American company tries to make an affordable digital cinema camera, they get flogged."

Watch it Mr Richards, the logical fallacy police are watching you ! :) ;P
