Vice President Candidate Palin HD Footage - How to sell?

Sorry about the double post in HVX200 and Cafe. I thought I was in the cafe originally.

It's got a nice ring to it I think.

Anyway, I'm a video producer up in Wasilla Alaska (Actually Palmer, which is just a few miles away) and I have tons of stock footage of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin in HD. Additionally we just finished shooting a promotional tourism video for the city of Wasilla (Her home town and where she was mayor for two terms). The footage has lots of local shots, the Irondog race, Iditarod footage, etc.

So we've registered palinfootage.com (Waiting for it to get indexed, right now go to dcalaska.com) and are uploading low resolution stock in swf and wmv formats. I need to get in touch with news networks to try to sell this footage as we're the only one's around that have good HD footage of her.

By the way, it was shot on the HVX200 and the HPX500.

I've tried calling CNBC, CNN, but it's tricky to get to the correct people so if you can help me get my stock in front of some national eyes I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
John Conn

If you don't have connections nationally, definitely try the bigger affilliates. They will get in touch with their bosses.
If you're really trying to sell it yourself online, make sure you do well in search engines by giving good link text like this:
Sarah Palin Stock Footage
have some friends put it in their blogs, I'd wager you could be #1 in Google this week.
And I'm sure B.O.'s office would offer up some cash, as has been suggested.

sounds like you're in the right place at the right time, good luck! hopefully you can rake in some serious dough

Email works really well for these sort of things. Toss in some frame grabs and start sending to news outlets. Emails can be forwarded around a lot easier than voice mails.

Also try the satirical political programs like John Stewart and Steven Colbert's shows.

Good Luck

Any idea of what this stuff is worth? I've talked to several local producers and they've given me estimates I thought were low.

The other thing is I don't really want to have to piece it out. Could keep our crew editing constantly to get people raw footage clips. Rather I'd like to sell the 6-10 minute chunks at one fell swoop.

We've got a lot of sample stuff up on Youtube as well as at our site now. www.palinfootage.com along with screen grabs, etc.

I'm working on a press release right now that I'll send to videography, creative cow, etc. Any other places I should send this that will get word out quick?

Don't forget about the AP (associated press)... You can google them, I'm sure they would be all over it...

BTW the industry standard for that kind of footage is $220 a second...

Don't sell it to a guy who will sell it to another guy... Go to the AP directly...

Thanks PK. Nice to get affirmation from the other side of the world.

Anyway, I've gotten a couple of callbacks and actually, one of my crew working the Alaska State Fair today talked with a crew from Al Jazeera. Anyway, any other recommendations on price for this stuff. I don't want to sound stupid and greedy when I talk to them, but while there's a lot of SD stuff, nobody's bothered to film the Alaska Gov in HD, nor her hometown.

Just put the press release out through prweb.com and they'll take care of the rest.

Now you've got to get some together from Bristol, if you have any. That footy could be on the air in a few hours if you can ftp it to them.

Yup, the stuff at Irondog she was pregnant. I saw her several times a few months before she gave birth (Before anyone knew). Completely hard to tell, no one noticed.

Nothing of Bristol.

Hello John,

Your footage is welcome at Pixelflow. We offer the ability for you to change your price at any time, so you can intuitively adjust based on supply and demand metrics.

There has been quite a bit of search traffic lately for political footage, and we would love to have you on board as a videographer.

Feel free to message me directly if you would like additional information.
