New footage! SGblade's GG1 - EX1 & new non flipped achromat!

Hi Guys,

As some of you know, last weekend we hired an EX1 to test out the prototype 'GG1' glass disk element that will be an option in the upcoming SGblade. GG1 offers low lightloss with the ability to stop down the 35mm lens and use high shutter speeds without seeing grain.

We filmed a lot of landscape shots, panning and tilting across skies and using wide lenses - all things adapters hate :) The lenses aperture is mostly between F4 - F8.

We also used this as an opportunity to showcase our new non flipped achomat that works great with the EX1 (currently EX1 users can not use non flipped). We hope to bring out this upgrade very soon.

Anyhow, enough talk, here is the link to the footage - please don't use VLC player, it seems to soften the footage badly:

Looks great! :) Very interested in seeing more. If this thing is all its said to be, LEX will be leaving my sight on my next film...for sure. Nothing but problems with the two I bought since the start of filming....

Yes it looks very good indeed. Some shots over exposed but that doesn't detract from the overall quality of the edge to edge sharpness.

When is it up for sale?

Thanks guys,

Steve, we are sending out beta units to 5 selected beta testers this month. Once we get feedback and are satisfied that all is good, we will go to production.

Texanite, 640x360 was exactly half the 1280x720p that we shot at. We are now attempting to get a 720p version upped to vimeo :)

weird thing is, none of those grabs are in the movie file except the horses
or maybe my file is weird??? it seems like it stops about 3/4 of the way through

Great Video!! but I have a question.
So if those where shot with the SGPro (or GG2)does that mean it would of shown more grain for the skey shot? and more grain when you stop down on your lens?
the video was beutiful but if you ask me if it looked like film I would say it didn't (for me)...so would the GG2 be better choice for me?

maybe a side by side comperison would be nice next? (GG1 & GG2)

most likely yes, but remember there is always a trade off. Currently the bokeh resembles that of the letus extreme, with the same light loss but the ability for multiple options in the shutter speed and f stop range. At F4 it looks fantasticm anything above is ever better.

With the older GG option wit the new coating, there will be a slight bit of light gain and of course, a chance that you may see more grain if you are trying to attain the same extremes that the new GG option can provide. But you will no doubt see an improvement over the old Sg pro and with the new GG, there will be much more freedom for everyone when shooting.

Is this all the Blade has to offer? The images look really washed. And there are lots of hot spots (not over exposed, this is due to glass GG not properly ground and then not properly coated). If the shooter didn't post the F stop, then I would doubt about the setting, but it was there. The color vividness is not there. But hey, it's a prototype. But if this is all it is, then it's was a waste of time.

you can't blame the color saturation of the video on the adapter.
That was most likely a creative choice by whoever shot this.

and the overexposure looks NOTHING like hot spots. The only shot that slightly looks like it might hot spot is the wide of the country side that has a slight vignette on it.
Again, not sure if that was the lens, a zoom setting, or a creative choice.

As Matty g said, it does not look anything like hotspots. The reason the landscape shot appears to have some sort of vignetting is because wayne is putting it through one of the roughest tests you can do with a wide 20mm lens! So yes, there is a slight bit of vignetting with a 20mm lens under bright panning / sky areas, but if you compare it to other adapters, you will be pressed to find even worse results.
