Selling to distributors for lump sum?

I have a question about that Gary

Will I be asked for proof of where those 750k went?
Do i need to just make a budget that charged me as director, producer, editor (if I do it)
and such?

I figured I would end up advertising it for 500k, that way it would sound like getting around 500k back. That way I can just pay off investors, and have a little extra to have an extra name actor on the following film....or better equipment :)!

If any of you guys have gotten a feature sold, please share your experience here.
It would help out a lot.

Okay we all know the story behind this film... but it looks like money was spent on it... an lets say the film looks as good as this home page... and the trailer plays as well... this looks like a budget the usual filmmakers answer would be "it costs under a million"...

To me... looking at that home page... there's your proof it cost that much... now the movie has to live up to that poster... which I'm sure it will... and that's the bottom line.. the buyers are going to say... good production value... good cast... hmm... I can make money... they'lll go for it...

Got it
Thanks for the example.
I've been studying boxofficemojo.com and looking how movies performed in theaters. Very interesting.

I've been trying to decide what it will be shot on.
I was told:
Do the red, if movie comes out good, then you might get an offer to have it transfered and put in a couple of theaters to see it how it performs. If they see that it's 2k, you will not get an offer at all.
It was also mentioned:
the HVX200 stood great, and if wanted could be transfer and still look good.

I see the extra cash that would go into the red and all the equipment. Should I just buy an hvx with a couple cards, good steadicam, good crane and more lights?

look at your pm page...

That's a whole other can of worms... the odds of getting something made for under a million up on the big screen or pretty high...

One reason we have been shooting on the Cine Alta is instead of putting that extra $100k into film and lab costs we can spend the money on bigger talent... and HD is getting more excepted as it goes along... basically goes along with my last post...

If you only have so much money... I'd rather see you put it in a name actor than a bigger camera...
