Drinking Beer in Beer Commercial

Is there some kind of rule against it? I can't find any U.S. beer commercials where somebody actually drinks the beer.

And there was a rule that you could not depict a person having fun as a direct result of drinking alcohol. They toe the line in the ads though.

Yes, I remember hearing about a rule/law where you're not allowed to actually consume alcohol in an ad. They they just stand there looking cool with a bottle in hand and a girl next to them.

Just as a person is about to sip the beer/drink, there's a cut-away to something else, then back to that person with the bottle lowering from the lips, as though they had a drink.

Speaking of ads, ever notice the disclaimers on the bottom of Listerine? I think they got sued for claiming that they took away all bacteria from the mouth, not so.

You can't show drink ing alcohol in commercials because it then associates the image that only those things WILL happen when you drink this beer not IF you drink it. Also for underage people, you can show people drink to minors in commercials.

i recall hearing it was a law however I also recall it being an agreement, just like the agreement not to advertise hard liqure on TV, no law against that, they just all agreed no to, so the government wouldnt make a law against it, and maybe go further into print. one company has at times broken that agreement Bardels and James (spelling) have at times aird spots for their harder than beer drinks. as a resolt of this, you now see captain morgan, adn jose cuervo, and so one on tv, "have a little capt in you"

if you watch old tv and movies, re: 1980s and 90s, you'll see this beer drinking cut away in them as well, I think mainly out of fear that some may claim this law could be extended to them. however you see beer drinking on TV and in films all the time, (probably not real beer but not the point, if it was beer spots could have glasses of fake beer)


is it a law, I wouldn't put it past the FCC, however, this may not be the case. research son sesearch
