LED MR16 lamps at W-Mart

HI all

Just thought I would mention I went to Wall mart and found some MR16 LED lamps for around five bucks. Lights of America Brand. They say they are 65Kelvin and produce 20 watts of Illumination @ 1 watt of 12 DC Power. (I dont normally shop at walmart so forgive me for doing so)

These have been on Ebay for a long time now, but most want 30 bucks EA. I figured I would wait until they hit the home centers or something. Walmart is as good as it gets for now.

I stuck one in My Frezzi mini fill (it fit perfectly but the diffuser cut it by about 4 stops, I took that off an ran it raw) and have been fairly delighted. It does not have a bunch of throw, but for near-field lighting or run and gun interviews, it is works well. Im experimenting with one of the little Gam Gell Picker kits to see if I cannot balance it out better. (ya know they are the perfect size for this app, best of all, they are free!) I have had OK success to date. Enough that is is surely usable for run and gun stuff, of FX lighting on a talking head or something.

I put it on an Anton Bauer Betacam Brick for giggles. It has been running for darn near two days!!!.... My 20 watt 32Kelvin halogen would have killed that battery in 3 or 4 hours, tops. Not to mention, I have no burnt fingertips!!

For what it is worth, they also now have Edison Screw-in LED bulbs for the 110 AC current junkies out there.

wow man, why you so down on Wal-Mart, its an amazing store, I grew up in Oklahoma where it all started, you can get just about everything you need there for much less than most anywhere else

nope, Sam started his first store in Miami Oklahoma, even started the chain there, then moved his hq to Bentinville do to property tax, and corp tax reasons, Arkansas made it to sweet for him. then when he died his worthless kids took over, no more made in America, but still cheap prices.

mmm, I may be wrong, but don't tungsten-halogen bulbs, by their nature, produce light at 3000-3200K temp? that's why you have to use the blue filters to match them with daylight (5500K) and above.

By the way, I'm not all that familiar with those type bulbs, but a google search turned up a ton of them and they are all priced at around $2 each.

I think the Wallmart thing is best left off the forum, at least at depth, but Im not a fan of how they do business both locally, and internationally. I have personally witnessed 6 major american companies go belly up directly because of their buying practices and ethics.

IMHO, Im confident this is not the Walmart Sam Walton envisioned.
