Britney Spears' real audio feed during concert.

The sad thing is that when you pay good money for a "live" cncert these days, chances are you're just hearing the studio music with a lively stage show for visual interest. Conversely, the Youtube clip could from be someone who did a clever VoiceOver at home...who knows?

As much as I don't like Britney Spears, the audio sounds altered in some parts. I can understand the heavy breathing, but some of the off key moments are too strange- since she hits the right notes in some of the difficult parts, and fails on the easy ones...

As for the live concerts, its obvious when you go see a Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Britney or even Christina Aguilera, that some songs need to be limp sinked due to the heavy songs and dancing. If you want to hear a real concert, you should stick with rock/ Jazz Blues concerts, or the occasional Robbie Williams...

My impression (I didn't listen to all of it) is someone picked up her wireless mic feed, with another reciever maybe, or was very close to a monitor. What your hearing is her lip syncing, which she has publicly admitted she does for some songs because of the dance routines. Some others have to as well.

The singers don't need to, and probably can't, put out when doing those routines.
Anyways, that's all your hearing. No shame in that.

What's pathetic is someone recording it, publicly posting it and suggesting this is how she really sings in an attempt to discredit her.

If that's really her raw track...then why dont you hear the sound of the water hitting her plastic hat?

I think Britney is in sad enough state that people shouldnt be doing this...I dont think this is real.

Ok, *if* she's lip syncing and this is a real recording, who cares?? If she's lip syncing, she has absolutely NO reason to hit the correct notes. Why would she try to? As long as she's lip syncing the correct words and the timing is right, then that's what matters.

I agree with Shawneous and Tom.

Even if it is her it doesn't matter because dancers lip-synch all the time. Michael Jackson is a great singer but he lip-synched almost every live show he did. I can only imagine what his live mic sounded like. But IMO this Youtube clip is just some teens with a microphone and Windows Movie Maker trying to fool everyone.

I say, FAKE. And, if not, who cares. :)

Yup. That's the real thing. She tries to sing the right notes so her body and face reflect the strain.

She's crap.

They all are. At least milli vanilli had some good tunes!! Sheesh people, you really think she can sing?

Unlike Milli , Britney sings on her own records, unless you think that's fake too. She's not singing here, she's lip syncing, if that really is her voice.

And unless this quote from wiki is all fake...

Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American recording artist and entertainer. Born in McComb, Mississippi and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, Spears first appeared on national television as a contestant on the Star Search program in 1992 and went on to star on the television series The New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993–1994. After a brief membership with the pop musical group Innosense, Spears signed a recording contract with Jive Records, releasing her debut album ...Baby One More Time in 1999 which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.[1][2] The success of the album propelled Spears into stardom, establishing her as a pop icon and "bona fide pop phenomenon", credited for influencing the revival of teen pop in the late 1990s.[3]

then yeah, she can sing. It doesn't mean anyone has to like her or or her songs. That's not the issue.

If I want to go to a live show I want to go to a live show. Regardless of what I think of the 'music'. If I was spectacle then I'll go to the freakin circus.

This is bullcrap. If she can sing let her sing. Obviously she can't (nor can any of the other hacks) sing AND dance. Poor training!

She's crap

I don't know why this video bothers me or why I even care to post about it. Dunno. I call shenanigans. Even if this is a legitimate audio track, the girl has the vocal skills to put her where she is today.

Yeah, I know... she's a complete wreck, but I find myself wishing good things for her. Again, there's just something about her. I've seen some amazing performances with no assist from the FOH in the way of a soundbed or vocals and I've enjoyed some shows that were, at the minimum, enhanced or synched.

I can generally tell, but this YouTube stuff is suspect right out of the gate - as is all YouTube content of this nature. If you don't believe that, I've got a monkey suit in my freezer I'll be pimping next week.

I haven't seen the clip and have no intentions to do so. What I find pathetic is that someone took the time to post it or, possibly even worse, took the time to make it if it is indeed a fake. I'm not saying one has to make a documentary on the shrinking wetlands or the misery of Alzheimer's, although it's a good thought, but at least do something constructive. I'm no fan of Britney but I don't wish any harm on her. This is all bs.

WoW... who would've thought I'd start some controversy on a Britney Spears thread?!

And in my opinion, yes, this is really her singing. Of course she's lip syncing to another feed (like all "dance" pop star concerts), and like Tom said, her only real purpose is to make it look close to the real thing. I think every one with half a brain knows that with these type of acts, they all lip sync during live shows so they can concentrate on the choreography. It's all for show, and some people actually go for the show, not the music...

But anyway... who cares. I just thought it was amusing...

Very revealing of how a show looks and sounds in "real life." But I also sorta think that there's no other way someone can dance and run around doing gymnastics while singing. It sounds so awful, but she's not even trying to sing. She's trying to keep the show going. Here's an a-capella clip of her singing, terrible audio quality, and she still sounds good to me.

By the way, Ryan, it IS funny. And interesting to see behind the curtain like that. I'm glad you posted it.

Oh I think it's the funniest thing ever.

Yes... I'll agree she has as much talent as 40% of any HS singers. She's a front for the over-the-top production both on stage and in the studio.

BUT -- such is the course of life in media today. Finally George Lucas gave us a cartoon of what has become cartoonish. Practical Effects and Practical Singing have gone bye-bye.

Does it make it good? To me? NO!

Let the album be the album and the live show be a LIVE show!!! Can't have it both ways in my book.

CAN'T Damnit!!!

I love 'knowing' a Beethoven symphony by the recordings I have... but I'll always go hear it played live to listen for the nuance the conductor adds... the strain of the 4th Horn on that high Bb... the tightrope the musicians hold to as they navigate the scherzo.

It's not perfect, never is. It SHOULD be on an album as they've edited the crap out of it.

Poor Britney, Madonna and all the rest... and PooPoo their producers!

Here's a question....

Why would any sound engineer actually open the mic on a singer during a routine where they were lip-synching? Open mics are the DEVIL! I know when I recorded, I closed every mic I didn't need.

I didn't listen to this one, and frankly I don't care. Why people think celebrity bashing is fun, is beyond me. I know how most here would feel if they put their work out for scrutiny 24/7. I know I make mistakes in my work, so does everyone.

It's a really sad statement about where we are as people.

Precisely. I guess we also have to remember what Mel Brooks observed about the advent of the critic.
