Help Making a Tripod Shot Look Handheld

Has anyone had experience with making a tripod shot look shaky and handheld? I figure this is pretty easy in either FCP or After Effects but I didn't know if there was a plugin or something that can create it rather quickly and randomly. Again, I'm asking before I give it a shot, I know I have a "Jiggle" effect that might work but I'm just curious is anyone has tried this before. It seems pretty easy, but I figure to make it look realistic there is probably a bit more to it.
Thanks in advance.

Use the expression =wiggle("how much wiggle", "per second") in the position property. Replace "how much" with the amount of pixels. So = wiggle(5,30) would be randomly move the image 5 pixels 30 times a second. You will have to scale up to cover the edges.

For realistic handheld motion:

Stick a couple of targets on a blank wall. Square, cross, dot.

Shoot it handheld.

In After Effects, track the targets to get motion, scale and rotation.

Then apply the motion tracking data you acquire to your shot.

Thanks for the info, I'll check out Andrew Kramer's site.

Capt Quirk: Good question. Basically I've got some FXs in mind that would be quite complicated if I shot them handheld. I know I should be able to pull them off on a standard tripod and then add the handheld look later. After some tests, I'll soon find out.

I like DCSensui's idea. It sounds like it'd give a more natural handheld look than something purely computer generated.

DCSensui's idea also offers less control then something purely computer generated =)
