De Niro, Pacino Team for Indie Movie

Pacino has been stuck in an overtop acting style since he won his oscar for Scent of a Woman. It seems like he figured that kind of style won him an award so why not stick with it. Before that he had a great range as an actor. Now he is nowhere near where he was in the 70's and 80s.

cocaine and age will do that to you too. HOO HAH!

You can sell millions of albums and not make a million dollars. That is a fact. Record sales make up such a small portion of your income.

It's apples to oranges. You are not going to make much money as an actor either unless you are one of the top lucky 1%. Most actors, even relatively famous ones, need to keep working, keep at it, keep doing B.S parts to pay the rent. There are super rich rock stars and super rich actors.

Also, consider that most actors can't just write their own stuff and put themselves to work. They have to be chosen. So, there is more of a waiting game for them. They need to take it when they can get it and sometimes the getting’ aint so good. There are so many bad parts or no parts leading to desperation which explains the uprising of reality TV shows featuring washed up actors/performers; Celebrity Fit Club, The Surreal Life, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, or Sally Field, an Oscar Award Winning actress selling BONIVA because apparently Gidget has osteoporosis…. unbelievable.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be a relatively known actor with no other skills and find yourself to be 45, no job offers and no money? You are put in a position where you might wind up being the middle-aged barrista at Starbucks schlepping non-fat lattes for the general public and having to deal with “excuse me but aren’t you Mikey from that TV show in the 90s!? OMG!?!?...can you please sign my cup?” How humiliating. Rappers (and other musicians) can just say "yeah, I think I'll go in the studio and work on my next album." Rock stars who write their own music and own their own stuff get royalties forever. Paul McCartney is still making a bundle from the music he wrote 40 years ago.

Finally, entertain this ugly part of the business; most actors get paid considerably low, considering how difficult it is to get cast in a BIG role or with relative frequency. Now, if you were one of the lucky ones who could command a $20 million dollar check how much do you think you would be bringing home? I've heard horror stories my friend. Horror stories where their agents slice 10-15% off the top. Then, managers slice another 10-15% off the top. Then, lawyers get another chunk..off the top...before tax mind you. So, you have $20 mil, your agent gets $2 mil. Your manager might get 20%, but not off the new $18 million dollar balance. No, off the original $20 million. And, it goes on and on until a $20 million dollar check, after all the payouts and of course, Uncle Sam’s piece of the action, can easily end up to be worth $2-4 million. That is not a bad day at the office but hardly the kings ransom it looks to be on paper. So, actors NEED the big payday to survive. Or, a long running TV show. Otherwise they wind up not at a Theater near you but at a Starbucks near you!

CUbe and T don't need to take acting classes my friend. T has been on Network TV for years and Cube is always on set either as an actor or producer or both.

lol. I agree. They are past the point of needing to do anything really. I grant you that. They definitely have “made it” and don’t need my advice. I just wish for my sake and the sake of their audiences that they would just take a class or two or seventy so their acting doesn’t continue to take me out of the story.

But, each to his or her own I guess.

Great post. I remember reading that will smith brings home 8 million for the 20 plus he charges. I don't think there will ever be a rapper that brings home what Paul does. I'm just trying to make 2000 a week. I can be happy off of that! I can't imagine making millions off of one movie or one cd. Let's start a dvx user rap label and direct our own videos!

I'm looking forward to this film.

Anything with De Niro and Pacino is usally good enough. The Red Band Trailer is looking fun.

I think De Niro's last good film was:

Meet The Parents

=

Pacino

Any Given Sunday

Give these dogs credit, almost 70 and still bad ass.

i've always mixed up de niro with pacino for some reason so this film will probably have me really confused ha ha.

but i'm a huge fan of them both and i think its possible they could make an entertaining duo in this film. it would fun to see them together. but at the same time, i'm not convinced they can share the screen.

either way, it's a must see for me.

Wow. Is it only about the money for you?

This is like bemoaning Scorsese in doing another Crime or Ganster film.

COme on dudes, we're talking about De Niro and Pacino; for the *first time ever.

Seeing these guys share an hour and a half is gonna be butter.

The names Pacino and Deniro used to get me excited. Now Pacino just looks like a rooster.

It's like they are in a competition to see who can pile up the most terrible cop movies before they die.

The red band trailer makes it looks a tiny bit better. However, I probably would rather see Pacino and DeNiro in a movie written by David Mamet. With possible direction by Paul Greengrass (so I can throw up! :) )

well has anyone seen this yet?!?! i saw it last night. i enjoyed it. at first i was dissapointed with it, but it got better towards the end. i just hate seeing de niro and pacino looking so old. but i guess thats the way it goes............. i enjoyed the twist... altho some might say it was cliche or predictable........... i just didnt buy that de niro would be banging carla gugino ha ha.

*Spoiler*

Yeah about 30minutes in I started wondering if it was really Pacino who did the killings so I'd definitely say predictable fits the bill. I was also disappointed that the two aren't on screen that much together, a lot of close ups and editing back and forth between them. The whole thing I was looking forward to was seeing them work off each other, which never really happened. But it could have been worse, so whatev
