I was checking info about
PHANTOM 65
As far as I can see it's by far better than Red. Its price is about one hundred grand, but, guys, this camera is incredible. I downloaded a frame and I was astounded at the quality...

Enjoy!

Yeah the Phantom is amazing. Ive been lucky enough to work with them and Im borrowing one in afew weeks. The setup I used had Arri Master Prime lenses, the whole lot was worth about £350,000?!

Its incredible though, even though its a high speed camera, it is used a lot in 25fps simply because the image it produces is so good.

I will give more detailed feedback when I have used it properly in afew weeks, but Its a fantastic setup.

i know this lens!!
is the nikon 17-35mm rehoused.but i don't remember the company that do this.do you know??

That one was called a Hawk something something.

We used the master primes mostly, only had that lens on for afew mins...

Andrew, you're right... This is not a 35mm adapter thread... Maybe it's a thread about a camera that does not need a 35mm adapter...

A lot of cameras don't need 35mm adapters, Polanski. But this is a section of the forum pertaining to adapters and their usage, not the Phantom camera. Really, this needs to be in the "Other cameras" section.

This thread is relevant in one big way - the lens. How else would I've found a company that does a re-housed Nikon 17-35mm? If it were in other cameras - never would've paid it any mind.

The phantom HD is a digital high-speed s35mm camera, the phantom 65 is a digital version of a 70mm film camera. Just pointing that out...

I would think the Phantom 65 is more than 100,000 body. Basically this thing is far better than a RED. More control, better images, But it costs a good deal of money.

The Phantom series is amazing. The V12 delivers 1,000,000 frames per second at reduced resolution.

There are a lot of cameras that contest the red. The Viper, The Genesis, the F35, the Phantom35 and 65, Arri also has one. The RED isn't the only digital cinema camera in existence. It has a lot of competition - and a lot of it blows it out of the water. Though many will contest that.

The body for the Phantom35 was £80,000 so what with the exchangerate and whatnot, im not sure what the 56 would be. Expensive though.

hey hoarp001,
do you know that rehoused nikon is only for rental or it is also for sale??
do you know if they can rehouse ours nikon 17-35mm??
do you know the price.
can you give us more news if you have ?

all those other options are a lot bigger and a lot more expensive (even to rent) than the red.

And I only said that the RED wasn't the only competition in the Digital Cinema Realm. The Phantom is more than the RED. Just because it's cost effective doesn't make it godly. I was just saying there are more cameras out there.

Hi Shiny,

Well as I mentioned, that lens was only on the PHantom for afew minuets, we were using Arri Masters. I wasn't aware it was a re-housed lens, it was just a PL lens in a nice little case that was next to the masters....

It would be nice to buy rehoused nikon/canon glass in PL mount, unfortunately most slr lenses that are converted to PL (aside from some super-telephotos) need to be completely redesigned as the iris diaphragm and rear element sit so far back into the camera when converted to PL. All that work translates to money- and because of the high demand for PL glass going on right now, I would expect that rehoused 17-35 lens shown would sell for no less than $20K USD, most likely it would sell for more.

I did see some old canon lenses that were converted to PL, there were no changes to the actual lens barrel, just had a PL beyonet on the end. It was a super-duper oober-roober long lens. 500mm or something stupid.

The longer the focal length, the easier the conversion. There are many older FD telephotos that have been converted. (You can find a lot of them on ebay)
