Whats the difference between Feature Films and Commercial Films ?

There isn't really much difference in terms.

"Feature" is from the days when a theater might show a cartoon, a newsreel, and a short or two, before the main or "featured" film being exhibited. Although theaters mostly dropped the other content a long time ago, "feature" stuck as the term for a long-form work on film.

"Commercial" denotes a project intended to turn a profit in the commercial marketplace - as opposed to a limited-interest or short piece which is not intended or expected to compete in that market.

Today the two mean more or less the same thing - a work whose length and content are chosen with the intent of releasing it into the mainstream market.

thanks,

the reason im asking is because I got this email from a film school teacher, this is what he said.

"I do not know much about the OCC school. They seem to be well equipped and they have a similar two year program to LACC.

It is a long way from Orange County to Los Angeles. Almost two hours drive on many days. Therefore the two counties have a different flavors.

Orange county is more corporate and conservative - many republicans live in this country.
Los Angles is more "show biz" and liberal mostly democrats live in this county.

If you want to study feature films and meet people in the film industry - you should come to our school. We are located directly underneath the famous "Hollywood" sign.

If you want to study corporate video and commercial film then Orange county might be a good choice.
We are a very good school."

I think that by "commercial film" he means industrials, training films, intra-corporate and inter-corporate type production, as differentiated from the "show business" (theatrical/tv) kind of work prevalent in the Los Angeles production environment.

I'm not sure how impressive being "located directly underneath the famous Hollywood sign" ought to be. There are also plenty of homeless people and hookers "directly underneath the famous Hollywood sign," but you don't see people using that as a promotional claim...

Some hookers do. This one hooker gave me a business card once and it had a quote that said "For a good time, find me under the Hollywood sign". I found it touching.
