BHPhoto - lenses - USA vs imported price difference?

while looking at lenses on BHphoto, i have noticed that often they will have the very same lens but an imported version and a USA version. the USA version is always 5-10% more.

example:

is there a value-related reason for this (like the way oktava mics from russia are better than the chinese ones apparently) or is this simply because people like to buy from the red white and blue?
 
I know in the past several warranties I had were for North America...so I'd say that it would probably be OK...but I could be wrong.
