Hi,

I am exporting a short film from Final Cut Pro and I am planning on using mpeg4 or H.264. For sites like Funnyordie and youtube, what is the best setting video and audio wise? Right now, I have been doing Mpeg-4 464 by 348 (for Funnyordie) and 640 x 480 for youtube, and I'm using data rate 3000kbits/sec for Funnyordie and 2000kbits/sec for youtube. Audio is AAC at 192kbps and 48.000khz. Am I doing the right thing? I'd really appreciate any suggestions because I am uploading my video today and I want the best quality possible. Thanks very much.

I've read it's actually worthwhile to get the DIVX encoder and send as 640x480 DIVX. I'm experimenting right this moment. Let you know how it looks. For better video quality you want Vimeo.

It's pretty simple, my workflow is the following:

Edit in 720p in FCP or 1080 or whatever.
Then drop that entire sequence onto an NTSC 30 fps timeline with auto-letterboxing.
File>Export with current settings.

Then open that export in QuickTime Player and Export to DiVx at 640x480 30fps and then upload that Divx file to Youtube. In order to make this all work you need to buy the DiVX Pro Encoder but it's only $20:

Here is what YouTube suggests, which is similar to what Noah printed:

MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
MP3 audio
Video resolution: 480x360 or higher
Frame Rate: 24fps or higher

I find the whole MP3 audio thing strange because FCP and QuickTime don't even offer MP3 as an audio output, so I always choose AAC which is similar. I like Noah's suggestion, although I have seen completely different suggestions by DVXUser members that have looked just as good.

The MPEG4 thing does not make sense to me either, now that I think about it, since YouTube re-compresses everything to H.264 mov. Seems like we should be able to upload with H.264 and it should look awesome, but that's not the case. I wish these guys would settle on something, they even re-compress flv files.
