What a strange and stomach churning decision?
At the risk of sounding like the perpetual accident waiting to happen (which I am), I was involved in the development of a project with a snake of a producer. The producer was asked by the network to attach someone "more experienced" to the project, and I was summarily squeezed out. It was a very frustrating--and yes common experience. Okay, so I'm pretty much over that. I've moved on and since proven myself in other ways, but ain't no big shot yet. So the "more experienced dude"--who was given the option by the network to keep me on the project or not--chose (surprise, surprise) not to. I mean, I guess what would any of us do except try to get rid of someone who created something when you've been given the option to take it for yourself.
Anyhow, so now I'm selected as an invited "new filmmaker" to an important film festival. And wouldn't you know the opening cocktail party is at this guy's house! I haven't seen him since he poured a beer in my lap. Okay, he accidentally knocked a beer in my lap as he seemed to get really drunk over the lunch we were having during which we were "interviewing" each other. I never heard from him again, except to hear that he was going to take the project forward without me. It got a bit ugly with lawyers and agents, because they actually had never even acquired the rights to the project. We finally settled. And I put it behind me.
Alas, now I have to decide whether to go to this cocktail party AT HIS HOUSE. I really don't want to. Am I a man or a mouse?
