Cinevate's Announces EX1 "FIX" CINEFUSE XL

It's been a long time coming but we're happy to announce our patent pending CINEFUSE X and CINEFUSE XL (for the EX1) have arrived and are shipping. This system is a drop-in (like all of our CINEFUSE line) and for most users represents a 3 minute swap. The element system incorporates advancements providing the most filmic image we've ever generated from the adapter system. Significant improvements in bokeh, specular highlight rendering, and diffusion levels have been made with very similar light efficiency to our industry leading CF1Le.

For EX1 users it provides outstanding edge to edge sharpness as demonstrated in this 1600 line chart (Zeiss 50mm f1.4 at f1.4, EX1 at f5.6):

For a look at footage mixed in with our Zeiss lens review, please check the clip on our video university page entitled "...EX1 FIX Test Footage" :

Cheers,
Dennis.

Thanks Phil :-) Send them in anytime as I believe you'll be needing the microprocessor update too. The pricing info is via the link to our catalog: http://www.cinevate.com/catalog

As a side note, CFX or CFXL can be left in the unit if you're using a cam other than the EX1, and we've got a version of course for the little cams like the HV20/30.

It will replace CF3/L altogether as it improves on its performance in every aspect.

Dennis, glad to hear the news! :)

Can you clarify a bit?

What is the difference between the CFX and the CFXL? Which one is better for use in the HVX200? And an even better question, which one will be best with the HPX170? :)

For reference . . . I currently am using the CF1Le with the latest Brevis revision and Flip Mod on my HVX200. I really dig the performance of that combination. But if I can get even better image results with a CFX or CFXL without sacrificing too much light, then I'd be interested in swapping out the diffuser again.

Also, what is the light loss difference of the CFX and CFXL, compared to the CF1Le?

Tex, that is correct. CFX is optimized for the smaller cams.

Dave, the element best suited for the HVX200 is CFXL...so they follow the same convention as the other CINEFUSE elements. CFX is designed for the smaller cameras. In your case, the biggest difference you'd see is the look of much shallower DOF with the same lens 35mm lens set.

Initial light loss with CFX/L (at f1.4) is nearly identical to CF1Le, but the drop as you go from f1.4 to f5.6 is closer to 2 stops rather than the 1 stop loss of CF1Le.

Dennis, I can tell from the vids that CFXL has really shallow DoF. However, can you confirm whether it has less diffusion than say a CF2 or CF3? It seems less diffused, though still boasting shallow DoF. I dont quite understand how that is but I can see it.

I prefer more diffusion from the GG. Which CF is the most diffused?

Mike, it's on par with CF3, but with far less grain masking, better edge to edge (on the EX1), larger usable aperture range and much tighter grain in the bokeh. I can't really recommend CF3 or CF3L any longer, although it remains in our catalog as a lower cost alternative.

are you planning another video university comparing the 4 elements now? I'm in love with my CF2L, and I wonder how they'll compare.

I use CF2Le as my standard element as well, but I'm thinking about replacing it with CFXL as the standard. Gonna hold out for some more footy before I drop the dough.

Not to worry, based on what we're seeing for CFXL demand you'll be seeing a lot of footage in very short order :-)

Ah, I see. Ok, cool. I believe I will be ordering a CFXL very soon.

Dennis, we've finally received a reservation cancellation so I will be able to send off at least one unit for MP1 upgrading. I had someone question whether or not one of the units had the "latest" CF1e (L) screen. I can include the one in question with the shipment. Is it possible you can clarify whether it is "officially" the most up to date?

I'd like to add at least one CFX (L) to the order as well. This will likely go out monday or tuesday. Thanks again.

Av, yes we can tell you what's in there based on your customer record, a lens test, or using our laser test bench. If you email/call us with your order number, or the last name used in the order, we can look you up and tell you immediately what's in your unit. We've been turning around MP.1 updates within 1 to 2 days and return shipping is fedex express, so we'll have it back in your hands very quickly.

Eck, the much tighter grain pattern is something that noticeably improves the bokeh with respect to smoothness and specular highlight rendering. The minimum size screen we test on is typically 42" at 1080p and it's there that you can really appreciate the difference.
