Panasonic HDC-SD9: 1080/24p AVCHD camcorder

I have a feeling I know the answer to this question already but thought I'd inquire anyway.

I don't have an AVCHD camera yet mainly because I'm working on a G4 1.25ghz computer running FCP 5. I know from my research that AVCHD can't be edited on a G4. My question is might it be possible with a Toast 9 conversion workflow to a get something workable with what I've got?
 
Yes converting to AIC in Toast will work. Thats what I'm doing to edit in FCP5 on my Intel Imac.
 
Thanx BBF, good to know I can work in FCP5 but I do have another concern. You're on an Intel based Mac, I'm not sure if the G4 would recognize the AVCHD files in the first place so I could download and convert them. Anyone?
 
FCP5 won't open or recognize an AVCHD file.

A G4 may not work with AVCHD, but my Intel probably doesn't fair much better. It should be able to at least see or store the AVCHD file, but if you can convert it to AIC in Toast it should definitely work with FCP 5.

Well I guess I could go the Costco route and try it out (90 day return policy) just wish I could know for sure before buying but won't know anything unless I try. I could just go with my original plan and get the Canon HV30. Ah decisions.
