Reflectors for daylight Outdoors...

I use a combination of reflectors for outdoor daylight filming to balance light on the Actors. However, the reflection is so strong (no matter how far away the reflector is from the actor) that the actors have to squint their eyes.

What do you guys use to reflect light, yet avoiding the strong reflections on the actors' eyes?

Please provide links of such items that i can buy.

Many thanks

Grab some white foamcore boards at a local art supply store. They work really well and are cheap.

I'll second the white foam core. I keep a couple piece taped together with white duct tape and folded like a book for storage. They work brilliantly and if something happens to them you go spend a few more dollars and get more.

If its too bright you could net it down some, although I've never really had that problem. Are you currently using a silver or white reflector? (or gold or checkered or....) I have had problems with silver being a tad harsh on the eyes, but not white...

Yes, i'm using a Gold and Silver. Silver is worse...

I thought what i have is some cheap quality that i ordered from B&H...

I'll try the white foam core.. Thanks

No, I'm sure they're fine. Try some white and see if that helps. It seems to be a softer gentler bounce. A tad less output but I find it more pleasing anyways IMO.

What I would try in DIY terms is this...

Get some shower curtains, or maybe it's shower liner. It looks like plastic diffusion. Hang that overhead on the talent to soften up the overhead light from the sun. Then get the silver side of your bounce board and shoot that through some diffusion, or even some more shower curtain. That should soften up the light on the talent, while keeping the exposure levels consistent between the silked and non silked areas.

I don't know if you want to buy the DIY stuff, or the actual things. If you want the actual grip gear, I can point you in the right direction for that as well.

It's what they do, so...give it a shot?
