PK's Karaoke World Record Attempt (40+ hrs of singing badly)

GinaFish is an Isara Mod who is in Arkansas.

Kitkat is PK's mom who along with PK's dad, Gwiz, is in Texas somewhere.

Terri and Ming are in Thailand with PK. I think Terri is doing a documentary on Isara.

For some reason Gina did not seem 100% comfortable with the fact that I was storing all of this information away. :)

Speaking of Ginafish... PK did "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. PK said "Hey! We have a 'Tommy' and a 'Gina'!" :D

So as the song went on, Gina and I were joking around with it and I said "...hands Gina my paycheck"...

You had to be there but it was pretty funny... Gina kept saying "No, I'm fine. I have your paycheck. That's all I need. I'm good."

Oh great. I was a little disappointed with the $1500 or so. Still glad they got that, but with all he went through, wanted it to be a windfall. That $4300 will go a long way there too.

Woo hoo, now it's says $5510
Glad to see he broke the 5K mark.

Whew... that's a relief! I was thoroughly disappointed with what I donated, but the IRS just hit me hard and I couldn't afford much of anything.

I'm genuinely happy he made the 5k.

PK, you the man for sticking it out, hopefully my (unfortunately small) donation can help you with your projects!

WOW!!! THANK YOU!!!

We DID IT!!!!

The support we got from DVXuser was amazing. You all kept the place jumping and kept my spirits high the whole time. Well, except between hours 29-33. I honestly don't remember much of anything during those hours. But Terri assures me I was still singing, although changing many of the song lyrics to be just random thoughts ("Hey Jude" became "Hey Dude").

I just had a chance to check e-mail and WOW!!! Seriously, WOW!!!!! DVXusers are some of the most generous people in the world. Prior to the event we had received a total of $1,550 from Thai and foreign supporters. After the dust settled from the karaoke event, DVXusers had pushed that total to $5,510!!!!!!!!!!! You read it right. DVXusers gave $4,000 for charity within 40 hours (that's $100/hr). THANK YOU ALL!!!!

The live chat was a lot of fun. You guys were cracking us up. I wish I could have read everyone's chat comments but it was sometimes difficult to look at the karaoke monitor and chat monitor. And each time I did look at your posts I would start laughing and mess up the lyrics. Hopefully everyone was able to get their request in. Sorry if I missed some.

We didn't have e-mail set up on the computers downstairs (they were setup to only process karaoke and the live Ustream webcast). It was setup that way to protect against crashes, which might jeopardize the world record attempt. The fewer processes running the better. So I apologize if you donated and I didn't say thank you during the event.

Also, I'd like to apologize for the poorly programmed countdown clock on the homepage. It was a last minute addition and obviously didn't work as expected and once the event got started I didn't have the time to fix it. :(

I highly recommend Ustream.tv for any webcast (live or recorded). If we didn't have the live webcast (with chat) we wouldn't have received as much support and I definitely don't think we could have beat the world record. DVXuser's TimeFest awards show also used Ustream for their webcast, so you know it must be good.

As you obviously saw, I can't sing. At all. But just because you're not good at something doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Which is one of the reason why I chose to do this in the first place. Just to try something outside my comfort zone and I hope you all enjoyed the show. Please don't be afraid to attempt something you're afraid to do. Whether it be a film project, a career change, or just making a fool of yourself on a live 47 hour webcast. Just do it!

Thanks again to everyone who supported Isara and myself. I honestly could not have beat the world record if it wasn't for the help of Ming (no relation to the DVXuser member), Terri (she wore many different hats during this event), and all of you at DVXuser.

Thank you.

Great to see he can once again put a sentence together.

Dang, now I feel kind of bad, PK.
Those are the right around the hours that Nadia and I stepped out... we got home just in time to hear 'Hey Dude,' and see Terri laughing in the corner of screen.
:)

For what its worth...I really thought 'Hey Dude' sounded great.

PK, you did great work and I thouroughly enjoyed the show. :) The live chat was fantastic. I was going to send you an email but I didn't want your comnputer to explode because I was sure everyone else would too.

I'm glad to hear it, PK. Definitely well-deserved, as it was apparent that you really put your heart into what you do and it was good to see your passion first hand.

I'm really proud of all the dvxuser's that turned out and supported PK and Isara the way they did. Everyone deserves a giant group hug :)

Later,
Jason

I highlighted your post to see if there was a hidden "except Penguin" somewhere in there but to my pleasant surprise...there wasn't. :)

What... PK set a karaoke record? Why didn't you guys mention it somewhere?

:cheesy:

Congratulations, PK!

I attempted to join in the chatroom fun, but couldn't seem to keep the stream going for more than 15 seconds at a time. Heh... sounds like I need to take my laptop to a urologist...

I didn't realize KitKat was PK's mom. Good thing I didn't say anything untoward. A first for everything, I suppose.
