Brevis Flip + HVX200 + CF1 setup ?'s

Hey guys,

I'm shooting with a Brevis Flip on an hvx200. The Brevis has the CF1 element because I've only used it with my HV20 up to now.

I was wondering what setting you hvx200 users typically set the focus and zoom at? Right now, I've been at 6.17 on focus and 27.3 on zoom. Do those sound right?

Another question is that since I have the CF1 and not the CF1le does that change my focal lengths? I had a 50mm lens on last night and it looked more like an 85mm focal length when I measured it....I took a picture with my Nikon D50 at 55mm (35mm size = 88mm) (with the 1.6 for the small slr chip size).

Thanks a head of time.

Best,
Andy

No adjustments required on focal lengths regardless of using CF1 or CF1Le. Using fast lenses (assuming SLR for this discussion) you can generally frame about 10% wider then normally possible with 36mm wide film. What you will see with CF1 on the HVX200 is that as you exceed 85mm focal length lenses, you may need to zoom in a bit more to clear vignetting. You will need to perform our basic XY adjustments with the HVX200 as almost all of them require it to center the frame with their offset imaging block. This is required to maximize frame width and avoid unnecessary zoom-in.

With CF1Le in there (recommended for the HVX200), you should have "super-size" frames right from 18mm up to 500mm. Using this you should be able to exceed the normal field of view for your lenses.

Hope that helps :-)

Are the CF1 and the CF1LE different sizes? It would seem like the CF1LE would have to be larger then the CF1 to allow for a bigger frame.

Is the distance from the lens different as well when they are installed?

I guess I'm a little confused on how why these are different.

The 35mm frame does not change size...so the elements are the same in that regard. Nothing changes with regard to our system, except the fact that your dropping in two different imaging elements. If you had to pick one for both cameras, it would be CF1. CF1 will work in both cameras but for the HVX200, you'll find that 35mm lenses longer than 100mm will vignette a fair bit.
