Cinevate and Zeiss Partner Up

We're pretty happy to announce that Cinevate will be carrying Zeiss lenses for use with our adapter. We've done a review that shows off the lenses we recommend. The review is up in our Video University section...720p version to come. Here are the details:

1. Shot with the EX1 and our new CFX imaging element system.
2. Ballare Dolly used in the rooftop shots.
2. Shot and edited entirely by the Cinevate crew.
3. We show the difference between the Nikon f1.8 50mm and the Zeiss f1.4 50mm which is very telling.

Enjoy :-)

Hi Dennis,

Are they a standard mount to use with non-brevis adapters?

Can you post a link to this video, im not sure where your video university is...

Dennis, you once mentioned that the Nikon 17-35mm lens was the best wide angle lens you ever tested, but would you still say the same?
How's the experience with the Zeiss vs. Nikon??

The Zeiss/Nikon Comparison pretty much exemplifies and justifies the switch from Nikkor to Zeiss glass. I noticed the SAME thing between the Nikons and C/Y Zeiss's just by watching footage mixed with the two.

The lenses are nasty, man.

I want to get the 100/2 in C/Y Mount soooo bad. That and a 180.

Dennis, the video keeps sayin "Media Offline". MIght wanna re-upload.

It looks like it was rendered and some footage was missing...that's what I get when the "media offline" comes up. I guess they didn't proof it before up loading it.

Yep, a few spots with no media in your video, Dennis. A reminder to us all of how important it is to QC before you send your footage live. I liked the piece though, and I really want that Zeiss 100mm f2! (If I can just find 1500 bones in the sofa cushions, that is.)

Sorry about that guys. We did screen the entire piece encoded in HD as a team, just to make sure there were no issues. Something goofy went on during the flash encode on one of our rendering boxes. Here's a direct link until we can re-render the flash file: http://www.cinevate.com/images/zeisssm.mov (63MB)

I think I just found a way to justify a move to a NAS RAID system to centralize our media files for editing...

Cheers,
Dennis

Ok, the fixed up flash encode is up at a larger (960x540 size) and bitrate so you can get a better sense of the footage quality. Also, a direct link to an untouched frame grab from the EX1 and our fix using CINEFUSE CF?: http://www.cinevate.com/images/ex1chart.png

The chart is a DSC labs chart that tops out at 1600 lines...we're just approaching the 1000 lines range on this chart. The camera is at f5.6, using the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 wide open. We're framed at a frame size about 10% wider than the 36mm film frame :-)
