Got off work early, grabbed my camera bag, fought the traffic and got to the wilderness only to find I'd not packed the e-510 or any lenses (thought the bag was light) I was so pissed but had to take one shot with the 500, so this is it. Inspiring eh? :)

This poor woman needed to be in some institution, there is just no way she can function in the world she finds herself in.

This is from the Point and shoot, yes it's a Canon but I figure I'll just keep all my stuff in one thread. I'll just list it as the P&S.
I posted this shot to show you where I go for most of my nature shots. The place is called Deer lake and is surrounded on all
sides by urban sprawl and yet it's full of all sorts of wildlife. Shot in wide screen mode.

I saw this group of leaves standing out with dark foliage as a backdrop and I was pretty sure I could lose the background stuff by reducing color levels, brightness and contrast
in the unwanted areas.

Fantastic work there Mino!

What process do you typically use when shooting? Manual? Aperture priority? shutter Priority? Other? What do you do for post processing?

Excerpt below copied from post 355 and 356

I use the cameras ESP metering quite often but also use spot metering too. I use the cameras spot meter to get readings throughout the image then make a choice based on that info. If I'm not really sure and the sun is too bright to trust the LCD for review I'll bracket the exposure. When using the 70-300mm for fast action shots in the 200 to 300mm focal length range I've been known to switch the camera to sports mode. I shoot fully manual 98% of the time but plan to start messing with aperture priority in the next while.
I also use PS PP in all shots as I believe it is the new darkroom. In the old days of shooting film I'd shoot two or three rolls of film every few weeks or months, drop them off at the drug store, get them back in a few days and wish I had more control over the processing of the image. Black and white darkroom stuff was no joy for me either. I had more control but the process itself did nothing for me. When I got a handle on Photoshop in college I was born again! All I need to do now is get a reasonable exposure, focus and composition in a shot and the rest is all processing. My images are opened RAW in PS. I first adjust levels manually, Then I adjust colors using selective color and finally a bit of sharpening to counteract the jpeg compression syndrome, thow a frame on it and Post it here or elsewhere and wait for the reviews to come in

PS....I was really happy with the duck shot as I never seem to get focus like that using the 70-300mm hand held.:)

With the shots above starting with the duck

Duck= Sports mode
heron= manual
Little bird= manual
snake = manual
dragonfly= Sports mode
heron flying= sports mode
bee= sports mode

If it's moving fast or it's a duck I quite often go with sports mode. I'm going to do some experimenting with Aperture and shutter priority modes for the faster stuff soon.

PS...I like how I captured the falling rain in the little bird shot:)

Didn't get it tack sharp but it's a Water Vole I think.
