AOF (Action On Film) Festival - Who's going?

Thanks for blogging your experience, Brandon. Interesting stuff.

Just booked my hotel tonight in nearby Arcadia, at a Hampton Inn ... seemed the best bang for the buck at only 6-7 miles from the way over priced Pasadena.

I'm tired now, so I'll get my ticket tomorrow for the Awards Dinner, which still shows available online. The ONLY reason I'm buying the ticket is for networking potential, which I hope is good ... man, at $150, I've got a few other places that dough could go! :)

Well Norm, I thought the reason you were going was to meet me ;)

I only go to these if I have a film nominated for something... and since the last three times I have had one or more nominations (of the four years its been going on) I have gone three times. It's pretty fun, they do a good job with it.

Make SURE you double check everything they give you when you check in, I was supposed to have a dinner/awards show ticket in this large manilla envelope, but I looked at it last night, and I didn't have it, so... I'll have to talk to them tomorrow (can't go down today, too much work) to get that squared away.

Hope to see you at the WTTP screening as well Norm! :)

Thanks for updating the blog & posting the link here, Brandon. Cool to read, especially (well mostly) because I'm heading there tomorrow night myself. Hoping to roll in by or before 10pm.

As far as only 15 people showing up to IRH, what time was it screened at, and how many people COULD the theater have held? Egads, I hope there's a bigger crowd than that for the 4pm block on the 31st!

We are heading out at 4am and should arrive at the fest at 9 am on the 30th. I will be catching the movies I can and then going to the showing of PUSH at the 10pm block.

It ALWAYS varies Norm, but actually this is the most amount of people I've ever had at a screening at AOF. This year they have less theaters than in years past (2-3 at a time this year, 5-6 in the past) so it helps get more people in your screening. Of course promotion does help, which I haven't done since the first year. If I have a feature in (like NGL next year) then I'll be promoting the heck out of it, with posters and the like, but for shorts I can't justify the expense.

I hope you get a good turnout Norm. The only downside to a Thursday afternoon screening is course that the awards show and dinner are that night, with people wanting to get back and clean up, etc.

Either way, I look forward to meeting you!

Hey Matt, I'll hopefully be at your 10pm screening. I'll be there with Geoff for the screening of Welcome to the Party at 6pm. Looking forward to seeing you again!

Should probably be able to make the 10pm screening too, then, since it'll have people there that I know. Hope to catch some kind of party afterwards for any networking, and if nothing else a chance to unwind after flying all day.

You're probably right, Brandon ... suck that BERLIN is likely doomed to a poor turnout at the AOF Fest.

Wow, the screening is at 10pm?? I thought the screening was at around 6 or 7 for some reason. I thought by 10pm, all the festivities were finished with...

I've only been to one other festival, and that was here in Portland, called the Niche Film & Music Video Festival ... they had roof top screenings starting then, simply because that's when it was dark enough to be able to do so. Was actually a pretty cool experience, watching a flick out under the stars like that.

You going to make it out to the 6pm of WTTP? I assume not since you probably wouldn't make it in time after work.

You are coming to the awards show though right?

Just checked into the hotel & changed. Heading there now, hoping to meet some of you guys finally, and catch PUSH! :)

I was going to get together for one of the parties, but it looks like Norm had his cell phone off. I left a message though...

Let me know what time the party started so I can read about it when I have to wake up at 7:30... :(

Hey Tom, just got back to the hotel! Glad we were able to connect for a couple of beers, and nice to finally get to meet you. Hopefully you can come back out with some of the other folks tomorrow (Thurs) night, after the Awards Dinner. I know I plan to stay out late...

Norm, great to meet you tonight! Hopefully tomorrow afternoon/evening we'll have more time to "chew the fat"

Looking forward to seeing Berlin on the BIG SCREEN :)

I think you'll be impressed how well the HVX/DVD holds up.

Thanks, Brandon, you too! Yep, looking forward to seeing it hold up on that big screen ... anxious is an understatement. :)

See you tomorrow! Hitting the hay now, to get up & drive out to Orange for my client's meeting ... which made this trip possible in the first place for me!
