How to arrange for a sneak preview?

My movie Felliniesque Players is ready for screening. I really could use some feedback before cutting a new trailer and deciding how to market it.

A sneak preview would be fantastic. I wonder if you could help me with some advice as to what to do. I'd like to screen the movie in a regular cinema house and let a 100 or 200 people react to it in an honest way.

I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

I think the word you are looking for is a test screening. You can rent a theater, or even a large hall that has a projector and invite the people. You should have a fill out sheet for them so they can check boxes and rate the items within the film as they watch it. These are then turned into you at the end.

If you want to avoid the expense and hassle you can have 100 DVDs burned and just send them to people and get the same feedback.

But with DVDs you never get the same honest reactions as when you have a live audience sitting there watching your movie. You can get a lot better feedback if you just sit in the audience like one of the other people.

Frank Capra used to put a Nagra in the audience and record the whole reaction to the movie. Then he used to transfer the tapes to 35mm mag and play them along with the movie on the moviola. He used to re-edit the movie based on the audience reaction.

I'm hoping for someone to offer me some kind of a deal on a projetion deal.

You are going to have to contact a local cinema or multiplex. Rent out a theatre. They should have a digital projector there to do the local adverts, prescreen stuff, or a christie projector for their feature. Take the DVD and play it.

Have someone you trust sit in on it and watch reactions. You can even tape it - get releases upon entrance.

Advertise the film screening and provide a reception after. Make it enjoyable, make sure it is run effectively. Get some press attention.

I can't figure out your website, so I can't help on marketing. (Plus, I'm not getting paid).

Thanks for the helpful comments. I really appreciate it. There were a couple of things I learned. What's wrong with my website? Should I devote a whole domain to one movie?
