Working with time lapse stills in FCP

I have a project I am working on it is composed mostly of still images. A friend of mine shot a few time lapses with his Nikon D70. It ended up being 866 JPGs I imported them into FCP (V6.0) and dropped them all into a time line. All stills where shot at 3008/2000 pix and RGB color space of course, there are 4 different time laps sequences with in the total 866 frames.
I have 2 questions:

1) When importing them FC automatically assumed a 10 sec duration for each and multiplied each frame to a 250 frame clip, PAL region by the way .
Is there a way to set FC to import stills at there native or set number of frames?

2) I tried exporting a bunch of frames using prores and re sizing them to HD. I did this using JPEG2000, uncompressed and animation as well, of all of them uncompressed seamed to be the sharpest codec. What I'd like top do is of line the edit in prores or DV and on line it back using uncompressed. Does any one know how to do this?
Thanks.

With Quicktime Pro you can import a image sequence, which is what you have... and give the resulting clip a frame rate.

Since I do most of this kind of work, in AfterEffects, I don't know exactly what you'd need to do to manipulate it in FCP, other than once a clip, it should scale (or be scaleable) to the sequence timeline that you drop it into.

FINAL CUT PRO - User Preferences - Editing tab.

Good luck,

EDIT --

Oh... this only works BEFORE you bring in the stills to FCP. If you've already done that you 1) need to trash them out of the browser window and re import. OR... 2) the other way to do this: Load all the images into a sequence (regardless of the length) and then select all (use the Apple-A or the T tool) and then do a change duration on them to 1 frame. Either way works fine.

I have found j1clark's workflow to be the most advantageous. Use Quicktime pro to export the image sequence in a particular video format. Then import this into FCP for editing.
