My wife and the mother of my two children has not worked in years. And I made her go out and find a job. (she starts tonight) Times are hard for a lot of people right now including us. Now I feel terrible about it and I don't know why. Anyone else been through this? We need 2 full time incomes.

Yeah... I've been supporting my Ex, her boyfriend (the bum) and my 2 children for the past 9 years! Be thankful she's working...and stay married...no matter what!

...and no... I'm not bitter....

my wife works and i don't. i've thought about getting a job, but then i wouldn't be able to be on here as much.

but then i wouldn't be able to be on here as much.
LOL

I can just see that conversation...

But Honey if you get a job who is going to read and post on DVXUser all day, you need to stay home. That Ramsy follow and Mr. Green can't do it all....

I dont pretend in the slightest to know your situation and I certainly feel your pain. Times have been tight for me too.

Just dont forget about cutting back. NOT YOU, but I hear alot of people complaining about how hard things are, but heaven forbid suggesting they stop spending $5 on a Starbucks 3 times a day.

NOT INCLUDING BILLS, which I have also cut back on, exactly one year ago I went from spending - LITERALLY - $1000/wk (cash, not credit) on anything and everything I wanted. DVDs, all meals eaten out - many expensive, toys, ....whatever. For a year now I have survived on only $20/wk - outside of bills. Food runs me $20/wk, $25 if I get a pizza that week, $30 if I go to dinner with TommyinLA.

Now, that is just me, alone, but this can easily be applied to a family. When times get tough, you gotta roll with the times, not live like you were before and wonder why it's not working.

BUT... I feel your pain. This is not PREACHING, it's just suggestions.

dang man. how much do you have to make to afford housing in LA and spending a $1,000 a week on whatever?

Up until a year ago I made a VERY good living. And that's what I spent. Other money went into savings and even more went to filmmaking toys.

Wow, $1000 a week in NYC barely keeps me out of the poor house. I def got to move out there.

I'm not sure what that means. I dont think $1000/wk TOTAL including food and bills is all that comfortable. But I'm sure it's more doable out here. $1000 for a nice size one bedroom has got to be less than the same in NYC.

You don't get any one bedroom in NYC for $1000, so yeah.

What I meant is, here it's pretty easy to go through $1000 a week, WITHOUT any new toys or starbucks, etc.

LOL. I still think you are reading my income incorrectly.

I didnt have $1000 to spend on bills and then had enough left over to live like a rock star. I made more than $1000/wk.

If you are making $1000/wk here, you can pay your bills and buy some stuff, but you are not high on the hog.

You're making my head hurt.

i'm glad my house payment is under $500 a month. i wouldn't be able to make it in NY or CA. :)

I met my wife when she was a freshman in college, and when she wanted to marry me I made her change her major to nursing. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE LOL

That sucks. I'm sure she understands. With the economy going the way it is. Let's hope something changes soon.

If you made $1000 a week in Chicago, you could live like a king (okay a well off duke). In three month's I'd have a $10,000 budget.

What was her first major?

I think psych or something unmarketable like that

EDIT: She LOVES nursing. She works in the Neonatal ICU which is ironically where I started out when I was in the medical field. Also my first wife was a Pediatric ICU nurse. My first wife is also 2 years younger than my current mother in-law LOL.

My wife's going back to work in September, although in our case she's not being forced to. We're motivated by greed more than anything. I work at home mainly and earn a good income, but with my wife working, we'll be raking it in. Also, my daughter's going to be going to school full time and my wife doesn't feel like staying at home all day doing nothing. Since my schedule is flexible I'll be handling more of the after school child care duties. It's also good for my wife's self esteem and security to get out there again, knowing she can provide if I get hit by a bus.
