After finally receiving the new Redrockmicro mattebox my new rig is complete. I had been using a 4x4 Arri MB 17 for years but although it was bulletproof and solid it vignetted with wide lenses unless I took extra steps. With the new Redrock MB all is good. Here's some images of the rig and MB for those still waiting for delivery. It's a nice piece of kit and worth the agonizing wait.

The improved Mattebox is very nice. Should be getting mines very very soon, can't wait to put it in front of the Ultimate.

As always nice rig there, Ian. Looks a little massive, is it handheld ready?

My rig actually balances quite well on my shoulder and isn't nearly as heavy as it looks. I have a RR shoulder mount on order since 5/2 which will surely make it more comfortable. I've been using a set of Cavision dual handgrips which are just ok/functional. I've done a good bit of handheld work with this rig and it's not too bad at all.

Ian, I saw on your site you have a letus as well as a SGpro. Which is your prefered adapter? And which is faster with flip in your opinion..?

Cheers
Jon

Jon,
The LEX and the SGpro have different advantages and tradeoffs. The LEX is about 1/3 stop faster than the SG but renders a somewhat thinner bokeh. I find myself liking the SG more each time I use it and will probably sell the LEX off soon. For now, though, its good to have both options.

Andrew,

I've never used the geardear but it looks a bit home made. For a few more bucks you can get a professional swing-away mattebox from Redrock. It'll be a good investment and relatively future proof as you upgrade cameras.

Ian, thanks for being the first to share some decently sized pictures of the final version of the mattebox with us!

Man if Redrock could match Production volume to demand...whew they'd be a force to be reckoned with. That Mattebox is one fine looking piece of as..err I mean kit.
