My D700 whooot! So I was expecting this thing maybe 2nd-3rd week of August on a more realistic time frame. But my dealer today said they just got word it is shipping from NY today. 7 business day delivery... So there's a small chance it can get here sooner.

zomgstoked!!!!

Congrats. I'm hoping mine will be here by Friday. Did you splurge on any new lenses /accessories?

lol nice! We can start our own club. jk lol.

Yes! I'm getting the 24-70 f/2.8. However... I am still debating if it's worth the extra $900... compared to the 28-70 f/2.8. I know it's bigger and heavier... but is the new crystal technology that much sharper?

Currently I have a 28-70 f/2.8 Tamron & I love the glass. Frankly, I could never tell the difference in quality compared to the Nikkor equivilent when I rented it a few times. I would continue using it, but it's not full-frame compatible.

Didn't get the SB-900... Can't justify that price difference. I'm pretty happy with my Q-Flash. If it had a special type of inner-cooling system, that would be nice and worth it. But just don't know about it just yet.

What about you? Any extra accessories?

From what I hear, the camera will take up to 32gb CF cards. I'm about to get some RiData 16gb. x233 speeds. They're fairly inexpensive compared to others I've been seeing out there.

Stopped in at the dealers today and it looks like tomorrow won't be the day. They're only getting a couple for their chain of stores and there are about 80 people in line with me. Boo! On the upside, I did pick up my 17-35 f/2.8 about an hour ago. I'll be getting the grip when the camera comes too. Other than that I'll have to hold off for awhile... I think I can apply for a visa limit increase in another three months. Can't wait to see some picks with that 24-70 on there.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I GOT MINE!!!! MIIINEE!!!!! MYYYY PRECIOUSSS!!!!!!
Will try to get stuff up by the end of the weekend or end of next week.

Not a full report here...
But these were some of the first tests with the Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8
Now, most people do their tests with some nice beautiful landscape scenery or people and stuff. In this case, I wanted to find the dirtiest, filthiest, object I could find at the time. And I found this bucket on the side of an abandoned house. I thought it would be interesting because of the interesting textures of rust and color off the bucket.
There is also some detail in the text of the bucket still there. I must say that I was very impressed with the clarity and resilience of color on this ugly object.

As far as focus speed, I couldn't tell the speed difference between this and a D3.
This was shot RAW originally, then exported as maximum quality jpeg from Capture NX2.

DON'T BE A BANDWITH JERK!
Right click SAVE AS Sample 1 (approx 6.5 megs)

The image will not open in Aperture or CS3 as of yet. Need to use the Nikon software provided in the box.
