ooh seems interesting.. the inner plastic part looks almost big enough that it seems if u cut it out u can use it as a ringlight

also - is there any footage from a non-fisheye lens? would be nice to see how it works in a "deer in the headlights" situation of a close-up interview or something of the sort - how's the color temp of hte led's?

the color temp is rather cool, but if you withe balance correctly then pull your color temp into negative, makign it more warm, it balances out quite nicely, ive also noticed that it works great with my DIY 35mm adatper for shotting indoors with less then perfect lighting...

and about the hotshoe mount, if you dont have one you can just get a lbracket thats the same width as the inside of the hotshoe on the camera, the hotshoe has a spring in it so if u slide the braket in, the springs will keep it there, basically do my how to but put the l bracket on the opposite direction, letting it go under the light, and also use a wider l bracket,

you could even drill a hole and thread it and put a bolt in there to further secure the bracket to the shoe, but personally i dont think its necesarry, the lights center of gravity will be directly over teh shoe so it wont go anywhere...

This brings up a good point I've been wondering about lately. The hot shoe, many times has a connectors for providing power to objects that plug in to it. Won't the metal L-bracket short something out on those hot shoe connectors? I was thinking that the hot shoe part that goes in there would need to be non-conductive to keep from having problems with the camera's circuitry.

Thus the name Hot Shoe. I think that would be a bad Idea, I love the DIY though.

Yes, so what we need is a plastic L-Bracket of sorts. That would be the safest. Has anyone ever seen a plastic L-Bracket of the size necessary for this kind of idea?

i know many people that have made handles for 1 chip cameras out of things stuck into the hotshoe, i called it a hotshoe because thats what i thought it was called, not because itsa actually "hot" with current. to my knowledge the panasonic "hotshoe" on the 100b has no juice in it and the ones that do have current running through them have a little circuit in them like sony and jvc, i know because ive seen them.

i am 99% sure the lbracket will not effect your camera... but dont blame me if it does...

Mine definitely is "hot" as it has conductors down there but I know some hot shoes that are "hot" in name only and have no conductors so I guess it depends upon the camera and type.

the shoe on the dvx is definitely not hot .. and on various other cameras, the contacts are usually a little deeper than the actual shoe mount .. this is also done for safety cause you don't want to have your flash go off every time you put it into a camera and so forth.

Sorry for posting this old thread but the putfile and ebay links in the first post are dead. Can somebody replace them?

Still looking for picture of the assembly

I have some of the LED lights from eBay...

They seem to be the same that VideoPeople sell for $150 ;8]

What I am interested in is how someone did the assembly...

Thanks so much!
