How to remove a beep from a DVD soundtrack?

A friend of mine wrote the orchestral music for a ballet, and he was given a DVD of the recording of the performance from the ballet. Problem is, the audio has a beep that happens every 30 seconds to prevent copyright violation. Is there some way to get out the beep? I know it's not the coolest thing in the world to ask, but after all he is the composer and deserves an unbeeped copy for his personal use, and besides, I'm curious about this from a purely technical standpoint, so no moralistic criticizing of my question, please! I'd also like to know how this beep was done, was a 30-minute track of 30 second beeps created, or is there a way to automatically beep a soundtrack in DVD Studio Pro or someplace?

My bet is any "beep" worth its salt cannot be removed without damaging the underlying track's sound--it's now part of the soundtrack. There is no automated function to remove it, and you'd have to try and do EQ correction on every single one of them, and ultimately you'll be left with drops in the sound or other sound artifacts in place of the beep, making it just as useless as a DVD recording. Best to go to the source and ask for a clean version.

If I were him I would tell them to get me a copy without the damn beep (and is this beep on copied they are selling, cause if it is I would be very pissed to have purchased a product that some numbnuts put beeps in, thereby ruining the experiance). At any rate, since he is the composer he deserves a copy without any damn beep. He composed it, what copyright violations is he going to be doing?

The musicians, poss the venue, the producer, poss the arranger. There are lots of folks who have a piece of a recording. I'm assuming this was an "archival only" recording and that the beeps were on the file that was originally made into the DVD. If not and they are selling copies then he should ask for a non beeped version.
It's a little strange though. I have heard and made quite a few "archival" recordings and they are often used in grant proposals etc. None have ever had any beeping.

But if you can't get a non beeped version you can use iZotope's RX and it's "spectral repair" mode to "repair" the beeps. It actually does an amazing job. BUT it's one at a time so...

Thanks all.

This is a review copy, not for sale. I don't think a version for sale is going to be made. He wants a non-beeped version of the audio for grant purposes, but can't submit something that doesn't accurately represent his work!
