Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series

I have been using this Sennheiser wireless system for years and haven't had an issue with them. Till I plug them into the sound board here at the local church.
For some reason the audio keeps cutting in and out.

When I look at the receiver display the mute shows up during those times.
Almost like it is trying to prevent something from coming in. I tired changing channels, and also lowering the levels, the pilot mode is also on (for both devices).

What is causing this does anyway one know?

might be some modulation from what near the board , cellular phones and cimillar , next time bing spectrum analizer :-)

Could be a local transmission from Taxi company, or local Radio Ham!!
Another source of interference is from Radar, if you are near to an Airport or Airfield.
Using Wired mics is the only answer if the interference is Local.

Has it ever worked in that Church?

Yeah I have quite a few times... I haven't really had an issue with this before could be an interference. At 1st I thought the system had a limiter or something (whenever the volume is too loud it just cuts out).

Weird. It would seem something must have changed in the environment. The system still works in other places, right?

Have you checked the squelch setting on the receiver?

If it's set at max. it may be causing the problem.

Set squelch to "LOW" in the first instance.

Why did I not....

Why did I not....

Why did I not read this thread before tonight? I had both High Squelch and Sennheiser for a DJ at a wedding. Live and learn I guess. I had 2 condensers on the room and a dynamic on the speaker so I am covered but the speeches are s much better from the G2.

It may be that you're losing the Pilot Tone and the receiver will automatically Mute when it can not find the Pilot tone.
Setting the Squelch to Low gives you additional range, at the expense of possibility picking up additional interference. Kind of a trade off there.
The best thing to do with the Sennheiser G2 receiver is to always perform an Autoscan with the Transmitter turned off before you get started. Jump to a different bank if you're getting less than 4 Free found. If you haven't seen the little Sennheiser Tutorial I threw together, check it out http://www.dvestore.com/theatre/

And last, but not least, if it keeps cutting out, and it's definitely not the cable, then just turn Pilot Tone off to get through the event and give Sennheiser tech support a call. You may have a bad unit.

The original query of audio cutting in and out is more likely to be a squelch issue (or a duff cable) than a pilot issue.

You are right in what you say about the pilot, but TX pilot off and RX pilot on would result in a total mute rather than cutting in and out.

The advice you give about scanning and changing banks has to be taken *very* carefully.

You cannot do this in the UK as there are only set legal frequencies you can use. Without a licence you can *only* use the first four frequencies in version E bank 8 and no others.

For mobile use *with* a licence you can only use the 8 frequencies in version E bank 6.

For fixed site use you will only be allowed to use the frequencies you are licensed for and no others.

You are not allowed to jump about looking for "free" frequencies.

If you can jump about like that in the USA, you are very lucky.
