I thought this was beautiful: Official song for the Olympics

I totally thought it was awful. It was over repetitive and I thought the melody wasn't anything special. It wasn't BAD, but nothing to deserve praise for.

Plus the majority of the premise/novelty and driving force of the song is that it is being sung by 'stars'. Well I'm not sure if China knows this, but we only know Jackie Chan. So the novelty of a Chinese Star studded ensemble is lost. Plus I can only imagine who these Chinese stars are... All I can think of are Chinese doppelgangers of Clay Aiken, Avril Lavigne, Ryan Seacrest, Rachel Ray and etc.

I imagine this is as useful as, in the future, showing my kids a video of "We Are The World" and seeing their reactions. They might recognize ray charles or bob dylan, but that's probably it. Plus they are going to think the song is awful too.

I'm off to bed now, and going to have that song stuck in my head because of it's merciless repetitious melody. Probably my punishment for being a cynic.

PS best part 3:24-3:29:love4:

i enjoyed seeing the chinese "stars" just because we don't know them doesn't mean they aren't interesting. I enjoyed the song though it was too long.

The images that they showed and the colours were also really great as well. Very interesting and made me enjoy watching the video. Although some of the camera movements were repetative and unnecessary.

You're assuming that the video is targeted at a US audience, but the Olympic isn't just US and China you know. There are many different countries that are involved and millions of Chinese people around the world who are proud of this historic event happening in their country. And those people may appreciate the "novelty" of a star-studded ensemble piece, and probably why the song is performed in Chinese. We're not the center of the world, so don't assume that because a US audience doesn't "get it" that something is bad.

I swear I heard "Chow Mein" in there...did anybody else hear "Chow Mein"? ...damn...now I'm hungry!

Cute repetitive tune though...

Sigh...I'm just saying that much of the 'magic' of this song comes from how special it is to have gathered a star studded ensemble. I don't think Chinese Pop icons are not special or talented because I don't know them. I am simply saying that someone who knew who they were would feel so much more inspiration from this song than I.

On that same note, I am not saying the United States is the center of anything... I AM saying that I doubt anyone from Europe, The Western Hemisphere, Africa, or the Middle East can name more than two people in that video.

I am very PRO Olympics in China. I simply think that song is nothing special, and what does make it special (The Chinese Stars) is lost to the vast majority of the world.

PS: My comparison to US 'stars' is more of a negative social commentary about US, then them.

I thought it did a good job showcasing Chinese culture and Beijing. Since that version didn't have foreign subtitles I'm guessing it was for primarily Chinese audiences.

I didn't watch the whole thing, the length and my inability to comprehend forced me to lose interest and watch the first 30 seconds and the two parts ugafan noted. From what I saw it seemed alright for a song targeted to the Chinese. I can't comment on the content since that is the one language I am not fluent in...yet.*

*Yo estoy muy comico hoy, no?

Meh, that was for the Olympics? Was there something in there that was Olympic themed? I don't remember seeing the Olympic rings anywhere, but maybe I missed them (and I'm not watching it again to double check, thank you).

Anybody at the Beijing Olympics now? I'm here and was wondering if any other DVXUsers are here and want to meet up inside the Olympic Commonplace?

I'm in Macau, just 4 hours flight. If you feel homesick, take a plane here, and you'll be amazed at what you'll see... Well, not Houston, but a "Bizarro" Vegas. We have the Wynn, MGM, The Venetian (with the Grand Canal and Gondolas (!) ), etc...

Anything, just PM me! Enjoy your stay in China! (Don't forget to go to that bar area near the lake- its beautiful. And where's that place that I went the last time that was entertaining? Was it "Madame Kwan's", or something like that? Just can't remember the name correctly...)
