V915P chipset mother board

I think he's probably talking about the 4pin power for the cpu.
If so, that's wierd. But is it actually posting and even working? Or just turning on ans staying on in a non working state?

Ok well that 4pin powers the CPU, so no it will not work without.
But you have given some good info. Take your pc to your friendly neighborhood nerd and try swaping the processor and see if that works.

Maybe that IS a glimmer of hope. Wouldn't that suggest that it's the CPU that's bad, and not the mobo???

Absolutely, my only concern is, given it's a 915 chipset, that's a manufacture date of about 2004, that puts it within the lifespan of some cheaper capacitors which is around 4-5years. And mobos are a huge collections of Caps, that's why I'm concerned about the mobo being the issue. But there is hope. Find someone that will loan u a compatible processor and pop that sucker in Takeshi and cross your fingers, pray, send out positive vibes or whatever you do to make life go your way. :)

While it is pretty old, you should give the board a good onceover for physical damage to the capacitors. I highly doubt it is the CPU, unless you overclocked the hell out of it. I handle the RMA's for a broadcast news systems company, and its extremly rare that a CPU would be dead. In this case, im leaning twords the Motherboard or the Power Supply. If you can borrow a PSU (If you have no morals you can buy one from bestbuy and return it after) to test that first, then you know it is the motherboard.

Also, What CPU are you running exactly?

And Yea, Johnny, i have done some pretty nice OC's in my day - Have my Q6000 At 3.06 Rock solid.
