Laptop Monitor

So I just gutted my laptop, and its got a relatively nice monitor. Is there anyway that i can use this as a monitor for my A1? Even if it's just for framing?

Yes, Adobe's On location and a 15 feet firewire cable.

And you get a True 720p pixel to pixel monitor, plus: Vectorscope, Waveform, Didgital recorder, Frame grabber, digital audio analizer plus a bunch of other tools.

ahh, yes i went that route, but what i meant this time was that i totally took out my monitor, like i have pulled it out and i have the wires just dangling from it. I didnt know if there was a piece that would convert those to any sort of AV ins?

What you need is a controller, and that's integrated into the laptops circuit boards. I think some places sell kits but its very expensive, probably more expensive then what you would pay for a good new proper LCD monitor.

The best you could do is try to put it back together and just run software like erdiaz suggests. Which is really a much more powerful option than a monitor by itself.

If you search it around the internet, you'll find it. I think its on a Canon forum, I saw a guy do that before. I created this super sweet set up and he pretty much just made a battery pack for the entire set up that ran the monitor he pulled off a portable DVD player and then rewired somehow. If i find it this week, Ill post.

If this works I would love to kind of do the same with some broken computer, awesome homemade monitors here we come!

*smile*

seems like more trouble than it's worth.... but i've been known to be wrong before... I think.. once.

Not made from an old laptop, but same thing :)
All you need is a controller as stated before.

Indeed its the 7.2" kit from manhattanlcd.
For case its the diy-solution that eveyone seems to like; Nielsen frames.
The ones you use for paintings, pictures and stuff, then just 2 sheets of Aluminium for front and back and a 2mm plexi in front of it all (broken lcd? Not with that baby protecting it):

cool, one more qquestion, on power does this kit need one power supply for the board and one for the lcd? 12 and 24v? if so how did you work around that? do you plug in or use portable power?

I made a step-up board that does the 12V > 24V. Fit inside the case.
So all I need is 12V in. But the card itself can be fit to house 12V out and 24V out and 3.3-40V in.
