We're a little past the midway point. What are your favorite movies of the year so far? Now that I've had a little time to reflect, here is my list.
BEST
5) Forgetting Sarah Marshall - This movie wasn't great but Mila Kush-whatever chick is adorable and super-hot and I fell in love with her. And there were a few laughs. How much longer will every comedy that's released be a Judd Apatow film?
4) Wall-E - With a little distance from this film, I realized I didn't really like all the stuff on the ship. Dropped this film down a few notches.
3) Funny Games - I loved the performances of the two main bad guys and Naomi Watts. I'm telling you this right now, three years and counting before Michael Pitt wins his first Oscar.
2) Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show - You really care about these comedians after this movie. Particularly the one who was waiting tables for 10 years and just wanted to get to a point in his life where he could make a living on his comedy. A lot of times an actor gets his first big paycheck for a film and his life changes overnight. But since he's an actor playing a character, we don't see that in the film. However in this film, you literally see how this movie changes this person forever. It's really cool and I highly recommend the film.
1) Kung-Fu Panda - Can't say enough about the animation, the heart, the fight scenes, the script. The scene where Jack Black is up on the tree-cliff with the turtle is a great scene. Loved this movie.
And for fun, the worst movies so far this year:
5) My Blueberry Nights - plodding, went nowhere, terrible script, I still don't know what this movie was about.
4) Speed Racer - Bizarrely terrible. What a weird humongous failure. I laughed a few times at the monkey. And the kid was pretty good. Otherwise, this would have been the worst.
3) Baby Mama - I hate Tina Fey. I really do. I don't like anything about her. My friend insisted I give this movie a chance so I did. There is one funny moment in the entire film. And it's in the trailer.
2) The Strangers - I despise this film. Start out as a horror film with interesting bad guy characters then turn them into faceless pointless killers with no motivation whatsoever. This movie sucked.
1) The Happening - The only good thing about this movie is that M. Night promises that if he makes a sequel, Rerun from What's Happening will be in it. But seriously, was there any doubt?
