So, my wife and I booked a vacation to Ireland about a month ago. After booking it, I realized we would be in Dublin the same weekend as the race in Silverstone, UK. Long story short, we went to the race yesterday and here are a few shots. Everything was shot with my D200 and 70-300 VR lens. I'll add some color commentary for those that are interested.

1. Not a great photo due to the low clouds and rain, but still an interesting show. These are the British Red Arrows. For you US folk, it's kinda like our Blue Angles or Thunderbirds.

2. I don't know what this guy was thinking, but he was not part of a special show or anything. He just few around us really low. He was further away at this shot, but he literally few close enough that I could not fit the whole chopper in my frame @ 300mm.

3. Here is my fav driver, Kimi Räikkönen. He raced as high as 2nd place and challenging for 1st, but a bad call on when to change his tyres put him in 9th at one point and he worked his way up to 4th before the checkered flag. This shot is on his warm up lap.

4. Here is the first lap of the race. The mist you see is the water coming off the road from the drivers tyres. The cars move so fast and the tyres work so well that they literally expel gallons of water a second.

5. 3rd place finisher, one of my all time fav drivers, and just an all around good guy...Rubens Barrichello.

6. It was like 14deg C outside, raining, and windy. While I was jealous of his view, I was not jealous of the 3 hours he had to spend up there.

7. My boy and current World Champion, Kimi Räikkönen (left) passing the former 2 time World Champion Fernando Alonso (right).

8. Race winner, Lewis Hamilton, taking his victory lap and waving to the crowd. Lewis is British, and this was his first F1 win in front of his home crowd.

9. This is my wife being awesome and smiling through the rain & cold to go racing with me. It could be that she was just happy it was over and we were about to leave. Something tells me I may never know.

Thanks Adam. I've had the 70-300 since the end of Feb. It's a great lens for outdoor work. It's not super fast, but I love the range and the glasses color are great. Also, the VR is a must for hand holding at that focal length.

Sweet...Love race cars, only sport I'm remotely interested in. I'm going to take my 70-300 to the local drag races this summer and see what becomes of it...Not to mention the airshow and local Indy race and, and, and...

PS...I remember watching the Red Arrows as a toddler growing up in the UK
