No spot for The Lot

Well summer is here and no sequal to that Spielburg creation, "The Lot". After that he went back to the basics with India Jones. It's sad though, that tv show had potential if it could format it right and have good judges and host.

I knew there wouldn't be a sequel when literally the day after the finale, the entire website vanished...the forums...the films...the community...all gone. All that was left was a page congratulating the winner.

The show was a disaster. Though my film came in second for the first week of that online film fest. :)

Too bad, good idea - but the idea failed. It was not put into effect well.

How's this for a rich fantasy life. Here is a post from the IMDB message board under the winner's profile.

DreamWorks + Multimillion dollar movie deal =

... Transformers 2.

Now that kind of seems like a big job for Will Bigham, but think about it. Transformers is a DreamWorks movie, and the winner of On the Lot was promised a multimillion dollar movie deal. And Steven Spielberg has IMDb credits for being producer for both Trans and Trans2.

And there is currently no director attached to Transformers 2.

I'm sure it's up to Will to decide if he really wants to take it on, but it's definitely within his reach if he wants it.

The original poster is 2000% insane for the entire post, but it's the last sentence that makes him certifiable. Yes. I'm sure it's up to the winner of a silly reality show if he gets to direct the sequel to a $150,000,000 summer blockbuster.

People are insane.

That was posted 08-24-07. Just after Will won, but well after Transformers has already taken in over $300M in domestic box office.

This would be a good time for the production company to re-vamp the show. They should copy the 'Top Chef' format that Bravo uses. An 'On The Lot' in that mold instead of a big time reality voting show would be much better.

Well, I think they failed in that they took all the reality out of the reality show. They turned it into an American Idol type talent show instead of a reality show.

The problem with that is that American Idol works because singers are the stars. Whether it is a solo artist or a band, the singer is who the masses get excited about. With film, it's the STAR of the film, not the director. So the masses dont give a poo about this wannabe director on the "Idol" stage. And since there are no stars in the mediocre shorts, no one cares about the films.

If they had instead made it a reality show instead of a talent contest, and showed the behind the scenes and more of the personalities of the contestants, then it might have given the public more to care about. I'm not a fan of the "put 20 people in a house" reality shows, but they seem to do well enough to come back season after season.

BTW, the voting style that I like the most is on "So You Think You Can Dance". The public can call in and vote to keep their favorites out of the bottom 3, but in the end the ultimate decisions on who is kicked off are left up to the panel of experts. When America votes they end up with Rubin Stoddard winning and disappearing, and Clay Aiken losing and selling millions of albums.

(The above is not to say that I am, in any way, a Clay Aiken fan or American Idol fan. It's just an example.

I think the majority of the population could care less about BTS and directors and so on. Now, a show about actors vying for a role in a feature film directed by Spielberg might be interesting to viewers.

Very few average people care about producers or directors unless they're in a relationship with a famous actor or actress.
