I can't put audio where I want it to go...

I know I'm not the only one who has this problem, and am hoping someone here knows how to fix it. I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0, but have had the same problem on 1.5 as well.

Certain audio clips can't be placed on tracks 1, 2, and 3, such as those recorded as Mpegs, and certain .wav files. It's not the hugest deal in the world, but pretty inconvenient to have so many tracks to deal with on a 17" monitor.

Sometimes I can fix the problem by rendering a new file, or by deleting empty tracks, but I'd prefer a quicker fix, because I want the audio to go where I want to put it.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Probably because those audio files are mono. Premiere only allows stereo file on one track and mono on a separate track.

Hey,

I have the same problem (inconvenience) as you Neil. I can't put tracks on the first audio timeline, regardless if they are mono or stereo.

Anyone with a solution please chime in!

I know what you're talking about. It'll only let you add it as Audio 4 or higher. For that particular problem, if you can drop it on audio 4 and then use the delete empty tracks feature from the sequence menu, and voila! It's on audio 1. Hope that helps!

You may be trying to put a stereo file in a mono track or vice versa.

Also there may be video linked to the audio that is bumping up against other video preventing the audio from being further manipulated...or you need to unlink the audio from the video.

Hope that helps.

I thought about that, but this happens even when there are no other clips with mono stuff. I guess that tracks 1-3 are designated stereo only, and the others can have either/or, but not both.
