Which 35mm adapter operate on a z7 without its interchangable lens?

I'm on the lookout for a 35mm adapter, but not sure which manufacturers offer a fixture to go between the 35mm adapter and the camera, whilst removing the cameras interchangeable lens?

So: Camera > Fixture > 35mm Adapter > Prime lens

(Not : Camera > Interchangeable lens on Sony Z7 > 35mm Adapter > Prime Lens)

Is it called a 'relay' which is required?

Regards
Jon

(PS. What about: Camera > Fixture > 35mm Adapter > Interchangeable lens on Sony Z7) would this work?

I used my SGpro flip on a Z7 very successfully. Had a few issues with edge to edge, but the new achromat (ships with all new SGpros) will fix it.

Sorry just re-read your message.

If you wanted to use a relay instead of the stock lens then you might have afew issues. At the moment (as far as I know) there are no lenses (other than the one that comes with the Z7) The plan is to introduce a new mount for the Z7, EX3 and the new HD cameras with interchangable lenses. At the moment there are no lenses other than the stock one, and its a new mount so you wont find a relay lens to fit.

As in my post above, I had fantastic results with the stock lens and the SGpro. Im pretty sure you could buy the sgpro or the z7 now and in time the stuff you need will become available to do this with a relay lens.

Yeah I saw your stills a while ago and was impressed by the quality with SGpro. Sony Z7 seems like a great camera, but it seems to have a really small following on these and other forums. Kind of over shadowed by the EX series I suppose, but gives me more opportunity to make money out of the z7, with the popular dvcam facility to it.

Have you got any footage from your short hoarp001? or any other examples of Z7 and adapter footage from shorts / music videos etc?

I thought the Letus ultimate was made to do what you are talking about, but that might be only for B4 mounts..

I personaly loved the Z7. The interchangable lenses, tape drive, compact flash module and ability to record up to 200fps made it a winner for me over the EX1. Personally, Im not ready to go tapeless, my workflow dosn't really support it. If i shoot for a client, Im not giving them a 500 quid sxs card at the end of the day. I did a shoot afew weeks ago with an HVX200 and the workflow drove me nuts. I would rather have used a Z1 over the HVX.

The z7 is fantastic though, very well designed and built, and has all the right features. I guess its just turned up at the wrong time and has been masked with all the solid state cameras.

I do have some footage. I can give you some if you like, email me: pete<dot>hoare<at>gmail<dot>com and I can arrange to show you some at full quality.

Also what is needed is a lens to focus the image of the GG onto the sensor. Im pretty sure the ultimate is the same as all other adapters at the moment and needs either a seperate relay lens or the cameras own lens.

The only adapter that comes with a relay lens is teh P+S technik, and P+S call it a 'connecting kit' and each one is specific to that camera and is stupidly expensive.

thats ok to me, so there are no mods or anything to go to 200fps? thats impressive as hell, is that in HDV res or is downing to 720? what are the resolution to the z7, holy crap now I am interested....

No idea, I spotted it in the instruction manual as we stuck the camera back in the peli case to go back to the hire company. I was annoyed I didnt have time to play with it.

I've had a quick play with it but is a 3 - 12 second burst in buffer. and slightly lower quality than SD, and I think it only goes to tape not CF, but I could be wrong. I think its a gimmick, but if you really stuck at it i think you could make a fresh music video out of it. Also i think its only SD interlaced DVCAM. Not progressive.

200 FPS means nothing now that ive got used to this amazing bit of gizmometery:

Thats about £150,000 - £200,000 on a tripod. ($300,000 - $400,000)

I get to borrow one for a weekend to film my supersonic tennis ball gun in action :-D

(i get it free with the operator, I know the guy whos in charge of highspeed at a big hire company)

Im not renting it, I am borrowing it with the cameras operator for a day.

The footage is stored on RAM inside the camera. If you like the shot and decide to keep it it transfers in about 10 seconds to the Cinemag, which is the box ontop of the camera. This is 500gb solid state hard drive.

After that, it transfers down an ethernet cable into a macbook pro. The files are in a phantom specific codec, but you can lay it out to HDCAM or some other format with the phantom software.

Maybe somebody can help??? I heard from some DP friend that the Redrock M2 adapter didn't work with the HDV Z7 because of its autofocus macro, but does the R3 Sgpro , letus or another DOF system work with the Z7? I didnt have the system ( M2 + Z7) in my hands yet, I will test that next week. Somebody Knows if there is a way to work with that configuration???
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Simon Brauer.

Yeah it works fine. You have to do some menu fiddling but it works no problem.

You need to set one of the assign buttons to turn macro focus on and off. What you do is slide the focus ring forward (which usualy switches auto focus on) and then turn macro on. A little flower appears on the screen. This allows you to focus on objects up to 10cm from the lens. What with the achromat and whatnot, this is more than enough to focus nice and sharp on the GG.

The peaking helps, and the expanded focus is useful for setting this setting.
