Did you guys see this catch!?

it was a cool catch, but for some reason that type of marketing rubs me the wrong way.

They might want to put her in 'tryouts'.

I take it that was a fake then? Or a company capitalizing as mentioned above?

It was fake. I read about it earlier although can't find the article now. I have no problem with the ad. I mean hell, if red bull will give me wings, why can't gatoraide give me the ability to run up walls and catch base balls?

Advertising like that always makes me laugh. It's like how Lynch's commercials never had a thing to do with the product.

Yes, these videos are fun. There's been a lot of them lately (jumping over the Astin Martin, the popcorn and cell phones trick, etc.), and it's no coincidence that they're all selling something.

But IMO I'm not sure it's the way we should be going. I know we "can do it" but "should we do it"? Because the problem with blending reality and fantasy, and these types of "reality based" fake commercials, is that many people actually believe it's real (admit it, most of us have been fooled) and then when it's proven to be just a commercial it causes us to question all proceeding videos in that similar style (i.e. reality).

Basically, crying wolf. Skepticism is a completely normal reaction after you've been fooled once before. I don't think any of us will ever believe in a Lost Amazon Tribe again. Right? lol

I know it seems like a trivial topic to be concerned about but this blending of reality and fantasy, NOT for the purpose of entertainment but for the sole purpose of selling something (which is different) could be the beginning of a more skeptical and cynical world for all of us. Which is already cynical enough. And I just feel for the person who REALLY will make a catch like that and nobody will believe her. Or the magician who really does disappear but nobody believes him.

Don't hurt me. :)

I think these kind of "commercials" are totally worthless. If the person watching has no idea what exactly they're trying to sell, then what purpose does it serve?

I watched both this video and that stupid popcorn popping with cell phones, and couldn't determine any specific brand being highlighted in either. Sure, there was a Gatorade bottle at the bar girl's chair, but I had to watch it three times before I even noticed it, let alone made the connection that that was what they were selling...

As far as I'm concerned this is right up there with those ads without any spoken audio that if you're not looking directly at the screen, you miss it completely. Good ads should be clear on what they're selling...

Yes... just posting the link Conspiracy might have been looking at...

I think advertisements have to do so much more than just show their product. There are so many out there we pass by without even giving a second thought on looking back.

Hype is the big thing now. You create conscious interest on an advertisement where we are actually looking around on the internet on what it means, then the ad definitely served its purpose. So we're the suckers... being sucked into their dirty money hands. :(

Time for a McDonald's McFlurry, they use real smarties. Go buy one.
