Buying a scanner/printer combo, with printer that prints directly onto CDs

Looking on Newegg I see:

For $41... thoughts on this? As oppossed to a cheaper alternative that is just as good?

And then 100 pack of photo paper for $20?

Also, I was considering a 100 pack of thermal printable Taiyo Tuden DVD-Rs as I hear they make some of the best?

But I wasn't sure if "thermal printable" is what you get for a direct to disc printer?

It looks like with the PRINTER, with the TRAY, with the EXTRA INK, with the GLOSSY PAPER, with the DVD MEDIA, and with SHIPPING...

The total is going to run me about $350...?

Come on guys I wanna buy tonight!! :)

Does anyone know about ink? Should I just get Canon's ink, or is there a better 3rd party to go through?

Oh yeah, and paper - any recommendations for what different papers to get and what brand?

Sorry can't help (except for a free bump:)... but I'm also in the market. If you could, once you get it and try the disc printing for a day or so, come back to this thread and post your thoughts on it.

I've been doing a bunch of reading...

Ink is either Canon's genuine ink at ~$15 per cartridge, or head on over to

http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum

to learn about chip resetters and ink refilling, for about ~$1 per cartridge.

It's another hack, but it's probably the few hours of reading/experimenting to learn how to refill ink for 15x cheaper.

As for media, Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are top recommended. For inkjet printing, the very best of the best is Taiyo Yuden Watershield discs, which are about $0.70 each for single layer 16x discs, but they are the only ones to feature a glossy print surface and they are water/scratch resistant... plus TY makes the best media.

However, they don't have DL inkjet discs, so Verbatim DL inkjet media is the way to go there.

From all the reviews I have read, people seem to LOVE the results of the mp610 for everything, including direct to CD/DVD printing - so I'm sure I'll feel the same :)

I used to buy TDK printables by the hundreds at Costco and never had one problem. I don't think they sell them anymore though.

I just ordered this printer from Vistek in Toronto. Any feedback from other recent buyers? I haven't bought the disc printing tray on ebay yet but will once my printer ships.

My canon ip4300 just died.

It's just over a year old (maybe a few weeks over) and it was very minimally used.

Needless to say I will NOT be purchasing another canon printer.
