Magic Bullet Looks - Assume Linear Gamma?...

Bit of a n00b question, really... But when opening MB Looks in Vegas, there is something marked "Assume Linear Gamma", and a checkbox beside it - What is this, and why would I want (or not want) to check it?

As per the Bullet Looks 1.1 documentation......

The Looks plug-in in Sony Vegas
The Magic Bullet Looks plug-in offers 3 controls, an Options... button for authorizing the product, the Edit button for opening LooksBuilder and the Assume Linear Gamma switch. The Options... button and Edit button are covered above and act the same in all applications.
The Assume Linear Gamma switch (the small yellow button next to the label) is used to compensate for projects that are set to render 32-bit floating point. If you change the Project properties in Sony Vegas (File > Properties) and choose to set the Pixel Format to render 32-bit floating point, then the Compositing Gamma is by default set to 1.000 (Linear). The 1.000 (Linear) setting, when used with Looks could cause a brightness shift. The Assume Linear Gamma switch when ON matches the brightness and compositing pipeline of Vegas and preset looks will render correctly. Typically, you don't need to change this switch unless you change the Compositing Gamma setting.

The Project properties controls that can change the output of Magic Bullet Looks.

Important: If you change the Compositing Gamma to 2.2, then you must turn the Assume Linear Gamma switch OFF. The assume linear gamma control state is ignored when the Properties Pixel Format is set to 8-bit.
