So the cameras an HPX 500. I was thinking about useing a wireless block on the boom. So my question do people do wireless boom mics and would the audio still be great. Also can anyone recomend a return audio transmitter for the boom op to conect headphones? Scince the shoot while alomst documentarty style I think a wireless boom op would be nice.

why not
the only problem as not on drama shootings where i use wireless boom all the time and establish the input lebveles on documentary you dont have abiliy to do that , so premp in front of transmitter is must , something as sd or psc so the booman can heare what he get in .

by the way before you fly wireless maybe you will buy mixer and teach the guy how to work properly without :-)

I was thinking of not haveing a mixer. I was also woundering if they make a wireliss transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack of the cam and sends audio to a body pack on the boomman. Maybe even get a second one for the director. Do you know of anything like that.

"so premp in front of transmitter is must , something as sd or psc so the booman can heare what he get in." sorry, im a camera techy here, didn't get that.

not having a mixer as about not having viewfinder :-)
you need to be able establish normal input level before you clip the transmitter input stage or ride it to low and get transmitter self noise .

yes i know about such device it cost around 5 grand and called zaxcom , it also records in the same time
www.zaxcom.com
ry not to reinvent the wheel :-)

Mostly what Oleg said. But, just for monitoring purposes, there are lots of different wireless setups you can hang off the camera. The most common is Comtek, but you can also use Sennheiser G2's, Lectro IFB, etc. etc.

For wireless boom, there are only two options - Zaxcom and Lectro 411's. Period.

Uh hu. mmm. I was kinda hoping to just stick a siennhiser cube on the bottom of the boom pole, And get some sort of return audio from the camera to the operator. Anything simple like that.

Kinda was hoping I don't need because it would only ever be one mic.

so read my first post .
sd mm-1 preamp or psc 1 channel preamp befor the tx so your booman can operate the mic level ( you will need pad down the level to mic to the transmitter if you use mm-1 )
and you are with headphones to hear what comes
